My plan.. hmmm..
I have already passed the NLE, NCLEX.. and then probably I plan to work here for 2 years (yada yada I know it's hard to find one) And then after which take the IELTS, apply for VSC. Once those are filed and I have to wait like ages I thought of going to UAE or something to earn and save maybe. But I was thinking my family wanted to migrate to Canada, if I were to take the CRNE or whatever it takes and (crosses fingers) become a nurse there what would happen to my documents that were pending because of retrogression if ever they gave me the grace of having a visa in the US? Is this confusing? I'm confused myself lol.but i hope someone enlighten me on this

I am a RN for almost 2 years. This time I am working as a clinical instructor and earning my MAN degree and a doctoral degree soon... I do hope that 10 years from now, I will be an administrator? lolz... i mean, since i cannot get the job that i want, that is to work in a hospital-- I involved my self into the grad school and into parish nursing wherein we conduct Medical Mission in different places through our church initiative. Just pray and pray.. it works!! He might not give you what you want this time. Don't give up.. there are some available working positions not just in the hospitals.. why not try? God Bless!!!

Can you tell us more about your medical mission, that sounds very rewarding. Perhaps you could use the experience for your graduate work.

Community health nursing is a wonderdful field of nursing, since you see the people in their own homes.

These are my plans.
1. Continue my hospital experience until i get to a 1 year, i'm on my 6th month right now.
2. Take up a course in medical transcription while working in the hospital. You see there is a special discount for us employees working there because the hospital where i am working now is also a college.
3. After finishing my medical transcription course (i'm only required to take the ojt since i already finished nursing)., I would take up MAN.
4. After reaching my first year of hospital experience, i'll find a medical transcription job, while studying for MAN during saturdays and sundays.
5. I would then contact a friend of mine who owns an agency, that sends nurses to canada, so while i'm working on my papers and taking some of the test that are required(eg. IELTS), I'm finishing up my MAN.
You see i'm not really in a hurry. And even if i dont get to go canada i would still have something to fall back on, because i can also teach nursing here in the philippines because i will taking MAN.

i know how it feels of not been able to practice your profession, im a graduate of 2003, at that time nursing jobs in the phils. is really quite a mess because of so many nurses who are leaving their jobs just to fullfill that american dream!i been hospital hopping one after another, ive stayed for a few months then leave again for another one!because of the salary and my responsibility of being the eldest..i have to give up my work and look up for a better job in order to help my sister who is studying her nursing degree at that time.well luck is on my way my former CI offer me to become one of them, at first i couldnt believe it because i dont even have the qualification and experience for that!my only qualification is that (im not trying to boast) that im the top student of my graduating class!and i love also to share what i learn!so needless to say i become accustom with my job!being an educator and a nurse at the same time!(well nurses are not just nurses?we have many roles also)so for the past 5 years i enjoyed my job!but once in our life their will come a transition in which deep in you heart there is something missing, incomplete!the reason i took up nursing is to care for people who needed me...but everytime i look to those people (my love ones)who needed me, i changed my mind again...well maybe there is a better tomorrow for me abroad...AMERICA here i come!

achievements ive done so far:
1.qualified for a scholarship for MSN in millersville university, pennsylvania
2.passed ielts (march2006)
3.passed nclex (june2006)
4.luckily to find an employer who can sponsor me inspite of my exp.

but sadly retro comes in!
i asked god why it has to be this way, were in your about to reach that road already then suddenly it will close and you dont know when it will be open again,then i realize there's a reason for everything!god has plan for each of us!
maybe the reason is that i have to be emotionally, physically, and conditionally ready when i get there!well conditionally ready i dont know?BUT MY PLANS now is to go back where i started from!EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE,EXPERIENCE
to those nurses like me who has to give up our CHOSEN VOCATION because of our responsibilty to our family?dont lose hope, someday,somehow will be able to achieve our dreams also!in god's perfect time!

i am an RN and just recently passed the Nclex very recently. Although I have no solid hospital experience yet aside from my duty days back in college (graduated in 07) I can see that the biggest stumbling block for all of us wanting to work int he US is the retrogression. Correct me if I am wrong but is this retrogression part of a quota system applied to all nurse producing countries by the US? I'm not sure if I have my facts straight, so if you will be going thru an agency you will wait for a pretty lengthy time right? WHat if one is in the US already on a tourist or student visa, will he or she be covered by this retrogression?I've heard of some Filipino nurses who passed the local board and NCLEx (some even didnt take the CGFNS) who were able to bypass the retrogression this way, legally of course. With the help of a lawyer they were able to shift their visa status and able to work in either a hospital or home. But I guess that you would have to be physically in the US to do that. I mean is this really possible??I would highly appreciate any comments reactions that will either substantiate or counter this claim by other people.

There is no way to beat the retrogression. If you attend with a tourist visa and try to AOS your status at the moment you will find you can't, to AOS visas need to be current and they are not. I find it hard for nurses to go to the US and with the help of a lawyer change their status and work, especially if in a home as H1b visas will definitely not meet that criteria. If something has been done illegally even if the nurse thinks it was done legally then the lawyer may be in trouble but the nurse will be in more trouble as it is their responsibility to ensure everything is legal and could find themselves with a 3-10 ban and deported from the US very quickly.

by the way, i envy you because you just took your boards and you did not get your focus off your nursing career. well, i took mine last december and immediately went into the call center industry... because thinking about the boards really made me so anxious. when the results were released last february, that was only the time that i regained my interest in nursing. i quit my job immediately because i definitely cannot find time to pass resumes when im asleep the whole day...only to find out that hospitals are overstaffed. i was willing to pay for whatever training/ volunteer costs, or whatever...i waited for nothing. while waiting i took the time to study again and take the BLS course in Red Cross...i've been trying to go through the IVT certification process,unfortunately,they're also fully booked. I also planned to go to Dubai to get my experience there however i am afraid if i fail to find a NURSING job there... right now, i'm going to our province- Bulacan to get my training there, im not sure if i can stay really long in there to work permanently because ill just be staying with relatives. Once i gain these credentials to brighten up my resume, i hope the hospitals here in the metro will notice me and hire me. And while waiting for employment,I am confused whether I should go p


You are so correct in that experience is what you need! Hang in there and keep on trucking!

Pls correct me f I am wrong, but I find it very ironic that Nurses in the US are still very much in demand but foreign nurses like us who have the qualifications are barred from working there due to the retrogression set by immigration. I will be taking my IELTS very soon and I am seriously contemplating on applying for another country instead. Its so sad that I really wanted to work there in the States as the 1st choice thats why I took the NCLEX. Anyway that's just my opinion and that's just me! Thanks again for all your insight.

The thing is there is no shortage of nurses just nurses who are fed up on working in bad conditions. I too am affected by retrogression and have been waiting like everyone else and it is so unfair to read of people who look at jumping over everyone that has been waiting since retrogression started or even with earlier PD by posting on how to beat retrogression. We have now moved to Canada and love it
