Hello there!

I have spoken with one of the volunteers at Red cross Manila Chapter during my BLS training. Good news is that, you do not need to be an RN to be able to render your volunteering service to the institution.

I think that it is a really wonderful idea to volunteer at Red Cross. They have so many programs, you will be able to learn a lot from those. I also thought that it is a good way to start your career as an ER nurse (if that is area is your endeavor) because they have this training wherein you can be an EMT.

However, if one has a knack for speaking in public, or teaching for that matter, Red Cross can be a good training ground, youlll be given a lot of chances to practice to teach.

I'm an EMT-B volunteer at Red Cross Davao City Chapter since December 2006. Anyone can volunteer but you have to undergo the 3-month training which costs P800 (during that time). PNRC Davao has only one ambulance and an emergency rescue truck and we are only called if there are requests for an emergency team during any events from company events to sports events to concerts. Usually we just sit in an area for EMTs beside our ambulance and wait for someone to faint or be injured.

Unlike our local 911 here, they have an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department which train and hire EMTs and they are the ones who are really in action- they have more that 10 ambulances and the community can call for help 24/7.

We RC volunteers were able to go with 911 runs for 2-3 days as part of our training. I had more action in that 2-day 911 duty than in all my RC duties combined! Our RC training is a big plus since it has gained a good reputation already training-wise but with regards to experience in the actual field, 911 scores more.

However, I don't know if it goes the same way in Manila Chapter. There are a lot of other programs RC offers under the safety services division like First Aid and BLS Instructor's Training course, afterwhich you can train laymen 1st aid and BLS. There's Rope Rescue Technician course, Life Guard, Swift Water Training...you can take all of it (if they allow you) and no need for you to be RN as long as you have the dedication for volunteer work, although most people are only after the credentials

I love what you're doing wahine888! .. unfortunately for us here in PNRC-QC, we can't pay for trainings because its given free for active volunteer members only. You have to render 200 hours of service, before they can consider you as an active member. Then you have to wait as to when they're gonna give those free trainings..
Hayz.. I guess its gonna take some time before I can actually experience that feeling of rush just like you do when responding in an emergency.. can I just go to Davao instead?? lolz..

im also try in PNRC-QC... unfortunately you must be in MFD service... which is more on sales talk..

The American Heart Association has one, and only one, authorized Training Center in the Philippines. Operation Smile Philippines is the only organization in the Philippines authorized by the American Heart Association to offer classes in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Pediatric Advance Life Support in the Philippines. Classes offered by other organizations and issued cards from Training Centers in the United States are in violation of the agreements they have with the AHA. Holders of these unauthorized cards risk having the cards revoked by the AHA.

Many hospitals in the US will not recognize American Red Cross or Philippine National Red Cross cards but insist on American Heart Association cards.

Operation Smile Philippines has their office on the 10th floor of the UCPB building in Makati.

is anyone here a philippine red cross volunteer at quezon city chapter? i have submitted my resume and the head told me to just wait for the text message for orientation. how can i still be a volunteer because until now i havent receive any text message from anypne from red cross?is it ok if i only volunteer at sundays?

hopefully someone from phil red cross volunteer at quezon city would answer this for it will a great help... thanks

cool! were you trained by davao city chapter alone or were also trained by medics from operations smile like those EMT's from other chapters?

you were only given 2-3days? i bet you were left craving for more weren't you? hehe! in our course, we had a 280 hour classroom session then for us to get registered and be given our license, we were required to complete a 250 hour duty from our EMS of choice but still we were left craving for more. i already miss my EMT days, missed the action, the excitement and the adrenaline rush especially during vehicular crash and mass casualty incident scene response.
