Tip to pass Phillipine board exam

Hi , My brother is in the philippines. This was his second course. He took the Philippine Board for 2 times now, and went to review centers for those two times, but still not able to pass his boards. He was one of the top on his class during school, but now can't even pass his exam. I know it is all God's timing. But just wondering is there anything he is missing???? Thanks for your reply.

Hi there lovingsister

I am a RN here in the Philippines. I took my board exam last Nov. 2008 and I am among those 30+ thousand who passed. I didn't get a high grade on my NLE... But who cares? I am very happy when I heard that I passed the exam.

Anyway, about your question on how to pass the exam...
I also asked myself that same question. And as of now, there is still that same answer...

First, review centers are good. But they aren't the one who will take the exam. It is still your brother who have to answer it. Yah, the review center I attended helped me... but not on the exam... what they gave me was FAITH... they always emphasized the importance of prayer. They also build our confidence. Confidence is very important. If your brother already failed to exams... tell him that he can still do it... Yah many nurses pass the exam, but many also doesn'e have jobs.

Second, tell him to read and read... don;t memorize. Understant what you read. I am no good in memorizing... When I encountered the board questions, and I can't remember the answer... I just stopped for a while and think hard... I try to remember what I did during my clinical experience... and I Applied it.

Lastly... before the exam starts... PRAY! ask for HIS guidance...
After the exam and while waiting for the results... just keep on praying.Have faith. You're right... Only HE can make things happen for your brother.

Hey.. im a registered nurse for almost a year now. btw, still unemployed! haha. anyway.. i passed it last june 2008 and i had an average of 82% yey! hehe.. not bad!

hmm..i think i know why your brother failed his exam even he tops his class during his college days. Because during nursing school, questions are more on objective style (identification.. blah blah, and some multiple choice that doesnt really test a nurse's ability to analyze)..

i would advice him to just read his notes during his stay on review centers. and NOT READ THICK NURSING BOOKS (that he shouldve done during his college days, since this is only a "REVIEW" and it would take time to read evrything again) and NOT TO MEMORIZE! and practice to answer lots of questions and practice his thinking skills or test taking strategies.

maybe your brother knows everything about the nursing concept, but doesnt know how to analyze questions for that. PRACTICE MORE QUESTIONS! that would really help... and don't forget to PRAY! Goodluck!

Hi,

I am also a second courser. I passed my NLE on my first take. I relied more on my old textbooks since I could easily remember what I scribbled in there. I stopped going to the review center so I could save time (preparation and commuting) and use it instead in answering questions.

I did not belong to the top 10 so my classmates, friends and the school (including me) were not really expecting that I would pass.. . .but I did. . .yeheyyyy. .. .

Most of all, prayers and prayers and prayers. . . .. .

Good luck to your brother.

He needs to practice more situational questions rather than the objective type of questions. He should also know about the test taking strategies in order for him to eliminate the possible wrong answers in the board.

I took a review center course only because it was included in our school's graduation fee. However, I did not enroll for the final coaching since it costs too much money.

But I made a challenge to myself that if I passed the Comprehensive Test of the review center then I am ready to take the NLE. I made it a point to aim for a 90% grade so that If I get a score lower than that I would still pass the exam.

The last 20 days before the local boards I read on the basics and the fundamentals since I became familiar with the other topics in the review center discussions.

I also made it a habit not to sleep during review (especially in the afternoon after lunch). Also I distanced myself from my "negative" classmates because I was beefing up my confidence.

The day of the board I had sinusitis and was very sleepy.
2 months later I saw that I passed.

Just keep on answering questions and know how to apply test taking strategies. That's what I did when I was reviewing for my NLE and during the exam. And also keep on praying before, during and after the exam... Goodluck!!!
