Share Nursing in Your Country with a Graduate Student

by rnicare

Hello,

I am a graduate nursing student in the Chicago area looking to communicate with a graduate nurse or graduate nursing student outside of the US. I would like to learn more about nursing in your country. I would like to know the nursing issues, education, the practice of nursing, the treatment of nurses, and whatever other information regarding nursing in your country you would like to share. I would greatly appreciate the time taken to help with this class assignment. Thank you! Linda

I hope this will help. I am from Philippines. Our Nursing Course is 4 years. We start to have duty hours when we reached 3rd year. We take turns in rotation. In my school we are 10 in a group but it depends to the school policy. We need to gather cases, 5 Major cases (major operation), 5 minor cases (usually minor operation done in out-patient department or emergency room), 5 deliveries, 5 assist to deliveries, 5 cord cares. This cases are one of the prerequisite for us to take our local board. I think our nursing practice is almost the same in the US.

if there is more I can do for you don't hesitate to ask. I will be glad to help

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the information you provided. One of the requirements for this semester's course is to communicate via email during the semester with a graduate nurse or graduate nursing student. The stipulation of it being a graduate level nurse is posing a problem. Do you know of any graduate nurses or graduate nursing student that would be interested in communicating during this semester. The course is Professional Issues and during the course of the semester we will share what we learn with the other nurses in the class.--Linda

Hello,

I appreciate your interest. I am in a master's of science with a major in nursing program and one of the requirements is to communicate via email with a nurse with the same level of education or higher from another country. The course is Professional Issues and topics of discussion would be education, profession, nursing issues etc. If you are at that level or know of anyone that is and would be willing to converse, I would greatly appreciate it.--Linda

Hello rnicare,
Congratulations for pursuing nursing graduate studies . USA badly needs the like of you. To better help you, Im wondering why you chose the issues that concerns the Philippines. The Philippines has a lot of issues that is shaping the nurse scape today. Im not sure if you are interested on what is happening now on our education reform that the CHED (Com on Higher Ed) is trying to implement called CMO#5 s.2008. Its the blueprint of the proposed new curriculum. U need 8 semester and 3 summer to complete the program. The RLE hours is 2449 hours. It attemps to bring the current nursing program abreast by adding new subjects like theoritical foundations in nursing, biostatistics, nursing informatics among others. The new subjects were once integrated on the nursing subjects in the old curriculum, now they were a course on their own. I believe however that the RLE hours were too long as compared to the US clinicals. There is a dearth of teachers qualified to teach nsg. informatics (in the truest sense) as well as nursing theory. even most American nurses dont know who Watson is much more appreciate her theory. I would envy your public library in the US, all networked with access to the latest Databases and Nursing studies. Only a few schools here in the Philippines have this access. What we lacked in facilities we however compensate on the clinical areas thus the long clinical hours. I do hope Ched can make a study nationwide on how soon can a nurse be competent starting fron a novice.
The sad thing is that Ched CMO 5 was suspended. pending review. I do hope Ched can make up its mind.
