Hi there,

Could you please give further detail of problems that have occurred. Don't hospitals and recruiters make sure that you have the sufficient credientials? And how do you go about getting a UAE license?

Thanks for your help.

@ybanagako:
Nightmare? Why? Can you please be more specific? I'm sure it will be more beneficial to all our other fellow nurses out there if you could post the info without need for PM. Thanks!

This is the registration procedure for MOH-UAE. I got the PDF document converted into text so that it could be post here.

1. General registration Information
Registration requirements are met when a nurse/midwife meets the applicable eligibility
requirements, submit the Nursing Registration Application to the Federal Department of
Nursing, MOH with all documents, passes an examination or meets the “exemption from
examination “criteria, pays the fee [fifty (50) Dhs only] where applicable, and all required
verifications have been received, reviewed to meet the standard and criteria of the Federal
Department of Nursing. This applies to governmental and private sector.
2. Eligibility criteria:
· Academic achievement: All Expatriate applicants who graduated from foreign
nursing programs must have graduated with a minimal attainment of sixty percent
(60%) of total marks.

(1000) hours experience within the three (3) years prior to applying for registration in
the UAE.
· Midwifery experience: All Expatriate applicants must have had at least one year
experience within the three (3) years prior to applying for registration in the UAE.

The nursing and midwifery examination is held regularly during each year. A score of 60% is
required to pass the two hours and a half (2 1/2) written examination of 100 multiple choice

Forms known as verifications (Verification of Education; Verification of license; Reference

The registration application is not complete until the FDON receives these verifications. The
verifications must be received directly from the source only as stated clearly on each

meets the exemption from examination criteria; the verifications needed to complete
registration will be given at the completion of the review of the application.
7. Repeated Examination Attempts:
An applicant not obtaining a passing score on the first attempt is allowed to sit the written
examination twice more for a total of three times. Nurses will be charged for each examination
for which they register. No refunds are made by the MOH for non-attendance or for any other

only to Registered Nurses or Midwives and not to Practical Nurses or Midwives. Those

Thank you so much for the information. I had actually found that information after some searching a couple of days ago. A few more questions though. I only plan to nurse in Dubai....so I still have to register and do the exam with the MOH as well even though Dubai doesn't recognize the MOH standards? And should I get a job first before sending all those papers in and getting my license in Dubai? Or do people go through the licensing process first and then get a job?

Could you please be more specific about the nightmare you are pertaining to? I'm asking because some of my friends submitted their application to an agency that's supposed to let them work in Dubai.

Hello ybanagako and thank you for the info. However, could you be more elaborate on that "nightmare" thing? I hope it's not happening on Elm's street, Dubai because that's where I don't want to live.

Most Dubai hospital require DOH test passers.
MOH is for the government hospitals. There are a few in Dubai but mostly are in other emirates like Sharjah and Fujeirah.

I would advise nurses to really check each's emirates' requirement on being a licensed nurse here in the UAE. They differ in several aspects. I am a nurse in Abu Dhabi. And I took the HAAD test instead. It is very important to note though that almost if not all of the health authorities in the UAE require that a foreign nurse must have at least 2 years hospital experience from his/her country of origin. Working as a nursing assistant here will get you nowhere, unfortunately. Well, unless you are way too lucky to be married with your bosses. And i think that is what the thread/topic starter meant with nightmare.
There is no room for promotions and wage increases for non-license nurses in this country.
