And should I get a job first before sending all those papers in and getting my license in Dubai? Or do people go through the licensing process first and then get a job?
You may or may not take the MOH if you have passed the DOH test. It actually depends on you and the hospital you are aiming for. and as per getting a job first or taking the test, I believe, hospitals here in the UAE cannot hire you if and when you do not have your license yet. If they do, they are only taking risks on you. The Health authorities here are very strict now - well, it only started early this year though. But they are strict on unlicensed nurses working nurses' jobs. Only last night, the hospital where i am working with got an impromptu visit from the Health Authority of AbuDhabi (HAAD) and has interviewed some of the Philippine licensed nurses who cannot get a license here yet is working in clinics. Today, our nursing director is calling for an emergency meeting again.

MOH is for the government hospitals. There are a few in Dubai but mostly are in other emirates like Sharjah and Fujeirah.

I would advise nurses to really check each's emirates' requirement on being a licensed nurse here in the UAE. They differ in several aspects. I am a nurse in Abu Dhabi. And I took the HAAD test instead. It is very important to note though that almost if not all of the health authorities in the UAE require that a foreign nurse must have at least 2 years hospital experience from his/her country of origin. Working as a nursing assistant here will get you nowhere, unfortunately. Well, unless you are way too lucky to be married with your bosses. And i think that is what the thread/topic starter meant with nightmare.
There is no room for promotions and wage increases for non-license nurses in this country.

Thanks myonee but which one will go first: find a job then apply for a license or apply a license then find a job? Is it any good if you just want to be registered in UAE without a job offer? How long will the license last or is there a periodic renewal?

How much does a nurse in Dubai earn? What is the average salary?

Will a US Licensed Filipino nurse with 2 years US hospital experience be exempted from sitting their nursing exam?

I am asking this because I am currently in the US on an H1c visa and there is a probability that I might have to leave US in Feb 2011 when my working visa expires. Im exploring my options such as Canada,Australia and probably Dubai. As you know there is still Immigrant visa retrogression in the US
