Nurse Re: PGH feedback
Just an update for those Registered Nurses who are interested to apply for Nurse I position at the Philippine General Hospital.

The Division of Nursing Research and Development (DNRD) is currently accepting applicants for Nursing Attendant Position but it is only applicable for bonafide registered midwives; college graduates who have undergone caregiver courses of at least 6 months and have passed the subprofessional civil service examinations.

Those who are undergraduate and graduate nurses are not qualified for this announcement. All registered nurses are advised to WAIT for the call for submission of credentials for NURSES. As of this date, the manpower pool of processed nurse applicants is at 250. Processing of nurse applicants will only resume once the level of the manpower pool reaches below 100. Rest assured that you will all be informed and updated in this matter.

Yes, UP-PGH has a 4-month (August 24 to December 4, 2009) Clinical Nursing Enhancement Program (CNEP) which costs Php 5,000 and is ONLY offered for registered nurses who have limited and/or not actively practiced the profession for five (5) consecutive years.

The CNEP is different from the 6-month Advancement Program in Clinical Nursing (APCN) which is offered for registered nurses who want to gain clinical experience at the Philippine General Hospital.

I'm not sure about it but what I know from other nurse applicants is that undergoing training at the PGH does not guarantee you a slot in the Nurse Proficiency Exam (NPE). My girlfriend who has undegone the 6-month APCN training last year still had to queue early in the morning at the DNRD office just to submit her requirements and get the much coveted slot for the NPE.

In my own experience, I had to queue at around 5 in the morning at the PGH lobby just to get a slot for the submission of requirements.

After submission of requirements, an applicant should pass the NPE and then be scheduled for a panel interview. If she/he passes the panel interview, then she/he must wait for the final interview with the Deputy Director of Nursing Services. After that, he/she becomes part of the manpower pool and waits for deployment.

Long, tedious process of waiting...waiting...waiting...

We have APCN trainees in our unit.. although becoming an APCN does not guarantee you to become a staff nurse here at PGH, at least one could experience PGH at its best.. you get to choose the special unit that you want to roatate into for your last remaining months.. we have MICU, PICU, CENICU, Renal Unit, PACU, Burn Unit, NSSCU, NICU, Neonatal ICU, Cardiac Cath Lab, GI Unit, OR with different specializations ranging from Neurosurgery, MISU to General Surgery..

it is CNEP that you would have to be a graduate of batch2004 below without prior hospital nursing experience for several years.. it is not a requirement.. for APCN.. these are registered nurses who want to acquire nursing experience (these are usually fresh graduates).. try to back read the posts for more info..

I don't think you have to go through CNEP to be able to apply for ANCP. CNEP are for those who graduated 5 years ago, 2004 and below. ANCP is for 2005 and up.... that is according to the person i've spoken with in their training department.
