Just curious! My cousin just found out that she passed her Philippine Board (first time!...so proud of her!). She is very much interested in working abroad preferrably here in the US....So, what is the next step for her in order to meet the requirements in obtaining a job in the US or other countries? Does she need to look for an agency? How would she know which agency are legal and not. I had a friend who spent thousands of dollars and ended up being victimized by an illegal recruiter.

check out the International forum especially threads on retrogression and Primer to working in the USA. No need to look for an agency can do it direct but may find it easier at the moment to concentrate and get her license before looking for an employer. With retrogression a lot of hospitals at the moment are delaying taking foreign nurses on due to the uncertainty of when they will get to the US. If looking at other countries there are a couple of threads about this but think EU at the moment will be hard as the EU has said employers must employ from their own country first then within the EU before they can look elsewhere in the world, making it very hard to get a work permit

if she plan to work in the US, she have to think theres a retrogression now so no visa avaiable and there are lot on the line who are waiting for there slot. first she have to take the nclex and pass the ncessary requirments. for the agency, she should be careful and make sure its listed in the POEA acredited agency. GOODLUCK

My suggestion for the next thing to do is to let her read the internationl forum here. Then, it's up for her to decide what she wants.

i have the same problem. I passed the local board, so whats next? I was able to come up with a solution...PREPARE for the NCLEX, apply for the nclex and take the nclex! after that i will practice my nursing profession or maybe enroll in a prestigious school and take up MAN. next would be train in a special field, as i have learned here that pay is higher in the u.s.a. if you have a special field. are my solutions okay? your opinions guys

as i have learned earlier, MAN or MSN here in Phil requires a certain additional hours in the US because they have a different curriculum there. It would only be considered as a regular/ general master's credit, not the complete hours that he/she should have spent in school. So, in effect, it won't add some dollars on your paycheck. check some threads concerning this topic. I asked suzanne about this without searching for answers now I'm became redundant in asking this again on the other thread. Sorry suzanne ;-)
