Nursing Preboard

by ghey2

Hello everyone. I would like to ask if anyone here has an idea if a Preboard Exam (Mock Board) is a pre-requisite to take the Local Board Exam for Nurses.

My friends are having problems with regards to this matter because their school will not allow them to take the June board exams if they fail the mock board. Is this legal? Any specific CHED Memorandum Order? Thank you all!!!

No, it's not. It's just a school pre-req. Some schools do this to make sure the school receive a favorable passing rate but as far as CHED or PRC requiring it - no. The only real req'ts for PRC is the transcripts and the RLE.

The pre-board/mock board exam is not a pre-requisite for the local board exam. However, most nursing schools would like to know how their graduates would perform more or less during the actual test that is why they do this. I am not certain if CHED has a memorandum on this. Not all Nursing schools may have a pre-board/mock board exam---but some schools let you sign an agreement that you need to take a pre-board/mock board exam before they let you graduate. If you agree to their conditions and sign it then you are aware of what you're getting into and you must fulfill that promise.

Good thing my university didn't require it. Depriving a student from taking because he/she failed the preboard is unfair. They're taking our chance of taking the actual exam.

Our Lady of Fatima University is doing this... they have the TCAP before graduation that you could only graduate if you have been successful in passing this exam.

After graduation, even though you already have your TOR they also have the QUALIFYING EXAM that only those who pass will be allowed to take the Local Licensure Exam.

Not only Fatima but i think even FEU is doing the same with having the Pre-board.

Our school didn't stop us from taking the locals when we fail the preboards. When we took the locals most of us passed and also many of us failed. That makes our school in the not-so-good position when it comes to ranking. But I'm still happy that they don't deprive us the chance in taking the actual locals. At least we really know what's our real score when it comes to the real thing. I myself didn't pass when we had in our Exclusive In Campus Gapuz Review Center mock boards. Even though i didn't had a high score in the actual local boards but still i was able to pass it. Time was not wasted since I pursued to the next exams which is CGFNS then on to NCLEX. Which I was able to pass. Now, I'm just waiting for my papers to materialize and hope that the retrogression will be lift up anytime soon. My point is that no school has the right to take away our opportunity to take the locals even if we fail the preboards.

Godbless to those who will take their preboards and on to the actual local boards.

Most of the exclusive schools are doing this pre-board qualifying exam. Its not something new.

Going back to the original posters question if its legal, it has already been addressed by Lawrence stating that its only school requirement in order to check the probability of passing the local licensure exam for nurses.
