Hello everyone

A new law in Georgia passed July 1st 2008- House Bill 1041- will not allow any nurses who graduated from colleges not similar to or not less stringent (specifically clinicals) ie third world country nursing schools.) than Georgia nursing programs approved by the boards.

They are also refusing RNs to endorse into their state from other states if they graduated from any nursing school they dont approve of (US or foreign) irrigardless of how many years ago they graduated or have worked as RNs.

You Must Graduate from a school similar to or not less stringent than a nursing school approved by the GA Board of Nursing.

i just have to ask.

does the law specifically say that they will reject FILIPINO nurses? is the word FILIPINO/PHILIPPINES actually in the full text of the bill?

i could be wrong but isn't this a form of discrimination?

may i suggest that the title of this thread be changed to avoid sensationalization?

I think the new changes to Georgia is to do with excelsior and not nurses Internationally trained. I have just checked their site and nothing on the application for International applicants indicate that they will have any problems as long as they go through CGFNS and CES is done, that will ensure they meet approval.

Would also add if this is the case and I personally do not think it is, then it will affect all foreign trained nurses not just nurses from the Philippines

just by merely reading it already implies a total discrimination to filipino nurses..

If GA passed a bill regarding not to hire nurses from the third world country,then,the other states follows?That could be possible?I hope not.We are waiting for so long with the retrogression when to uplift,then another issue again for us International Nurses.We hope to hear good news soon.Thanks...

They did not pass any such bill, this is how rumors get started. If one takes the time to actually read what was written by them, it is concerned 100% with the program that is thru Excelsior College, and nothing more than that. This same program is not accepted by several other states as well, including CA. This all has to do with the way that the students enrolled in Excelsior obtain their clinical hours, nothing more than that.

The four year programs in the Philippines meet the requirements for licensure in all 50 states provided that the school offers all of the required courses.

Georgia has just changed their rulings on graduates from this one specific program, and nothing more than that.

And there is not one thing anywhere on their site that states that they are not accpepting foreign nurses. Nor does it state anything about anyone from the Philippines.

You need to read the entire website and not just pick out statements that have no bearing on anything else.

Please be very careful when you do something like this, especially when it is not true at all.

And if you look at the requirements for any state in the US, it states that the training must be equal to at least what is required by that state. That is why you see individual evaluations always done in any state for each and every applicant. Sure, some states use the CES to save time for themselves; but it comes down to the fact that the training must meet the requirements for that state.

Even in the US, not all programs offered here are accepted in all 50 states. But to make a blanket statement that Georgia is not going to accept any graduates from the Philippines is just not true. They are referring to some of the non-traditional programs that we have in the US.

The Philippines does not even offer any of those.

Thread closed since there is no place on that entire bill that states that they are not accepting nurses from the Philippines or any other foreign country.

Without something to back this statement up, there is no truth to it.
