i am a freshly graduate of the BSN curriculum here in the philippines and I am still completing my requirments for the licensure exams by november 2009. I still have to enroll in a review center soon as to prepare myself for the upcoming exam. But as of now, since there are 2 schedules of exams here in our country, the first bacth is on june (the reason why I cant enroll immediately to a review center because they are prioritizing the june examinees) and the 2nd batch will be on november( where i decided to take my licensure exam) I wasnt able to run my application for the June exams since I still have incomplete cases which are required for the application and up to now I am still completing it. Im planning to review on my own for this moment but seems like i cant do it by myself alone.. I have nothing to do now after I graduated and it feels like that my precious time is being wasted. I wanna be productive and plans to work for a part time but seems like I cant find a suitable job and Im being worried that I cant focus on my review if I start working now.. I hope you can help me out solve this dilemma I have ryt now.. some nursing piece of advice.. Thanks!

Hi Tomcam, I graduated 2 years ago and I just took the nursing licensure exam for the first time November 2008. The reason for that? I started working and never stopped. At first I was rationalizing it with, "I need to provide for my kid, I'll take the test in December" (at that time the exams were still in December) -- time flew and it was two years later, I had a bachelor degree but not licensed to practice. If you have the choice, meaning, the support of your family financially, then just use this time to prepare for your exam in November, especially finishing up the requirements. That's my advice, I didn't do that when I graduated. I just started working, working, working. Never regretted the time of course, since I learned a lot from working (read: the value of money, even one peso is extremely important to you if you are the person earning that one peso). But still, it side-tracked me from using my degree.

im planning to apply in a call center with an account on healthcare or maybe a medical transcriptionist or medical representative but i guess it wont work since i need to focus on my review..

Why don't you try to get some trainings like First Aid Training and BLS-CPR, it does not requires you to be a registered nurse for you to join the training, and if you can't find a job as a non-registered nurse you can try to volunteer to some organizations like the Philippine National Red Cross for the mean time, the organization offers a lot of trainings to their volunteers! You might also be able to acquire experiences from the organization that you didn't experienced while you were in college.

Try tutoring Koreans. Some centers hire part-time tutors. That way you can still focus on your review.

A call center will provide you with money but you might lose focus.

Yeah, we all have different learning styles. In my case I can't concentrate in a review center because there are too many distractions. Classmates to chat with, anecdotes from reviewers, long breaks, commuting to and fro... I like studying on my own better because it's just me and the book. Different strokes for different folks

yeah, i just recently joined the phil natl red cross and become a volunteer.. Ill be going to the qc chapter to check for more details.. Thanks!

Hi! I suggest you focus first on the upcoming boards. I took mine June 07 and after the boards that's where I looked for a job instead of waiting for the results and doing nothing. I'm now working as a customer service agent for Bayer Healthcare. We cater diabetics in the US. At least I'm into something related. It financed my trainings and seminars but I'm now applying in local hospitals and agencies for abroad. Good luck to you!
