How are fellow second coursers doing in other schools?

For those who are currently enrolled as second courser nursing students. I am just wondering if your school also requires you to do your bulletin boards in your hallways, become ushers or usherettes in capping/graduation ceremonies (and tells you it is not a request, it is compulsory), attend acquaintance parties with the regular students (who are years younger or sometimes half your age), come up with tea parties for the faculty and staff and students, come up with a dance or song number in school presentations (as a class), requires you to come in school in Filipiniana uniform for "Linggo ng Wika" or Communication's Week? All expense paid herewith necessitated...by you - the student. In short, how is it like out there, if only i have chosen another school? kindly give me a glimpse. Thanks!

i would just like to add, since i go to the same school as silvermed here, that those are not the only hang ups of our beloved school. One more thing is that they are so disorganized when it comes to duty and class schedules. Even the professors themselves can't get along with each other. Another thing, some CIs really have poor ethics and manners which is really so annoying. This one particular CI would treat you as if you were stupid. Just wondering if you guys have the same problems with your school, or is it just us? Guess we picked the wrong school.. but its too late now. Just have to stomach it all in till we graduate. Can't wait to get out of this school! hehe

Hello.. I'm a second courser, 23 yrs old.. and currently a level IV BSN student... About ur questions... I can relate to some of them, like doing bulletin boards along the hallways, perform with the regular students during class activities (even during duties, at the NCMH, we were made to do a dance number), attendance at all school activities are strictly monitored, with a 1absent:7days make up (even Sportsfest, Foundation Day, Acquaintance Party, etc...), and yup.. being made to act as ushers and usherettes during the Capping and Pinning Ceremony....

We're treated like regular students, no exemptions... that's what they always say...
Our school has this tradition, that every year, during the Acquaintance party, Senior Nursing Students were made to dance in front of all the students, personnel, faculty, etc.... and second coursers usually turn out as the clowns, the center of attention.....

I share the same sentiments with silvermed and joelovesnurses ... I can't wait to get out of this "hell school". Have you ever had a professor who includes appendices in the exam? ... She gets her exam questions from out of this world sources without even explaining the topic ... According to her this is creative writing ...

I'm not a second courser but your experiences are really disturbing! Well, I'm glad my school dont treat 2nd coursers like that! We respect them because they have more experience than us and our professors likes them because they share many experiences to other students!

According to her this is creative writing
It might be creative thinking for your prof, but its not analytical and critical thinking... I will agree on the way he gives exams if you can see that kind of "creative writing" in the board exam!

also a second courser here ..but i don't have the same experiences with you guys..because unlike you we don't have any events such as filipino week or nursing week..what we only have is the annual foundation day.. students mind their own thing which is sad because there's no unity in the school..

To Joelovesnurses, Pharm_studentnurse, Ice1978, Silvermed,

What a small world, I know someone who goes to the same school. Were you all there at the recent "Linggo ng Wika" celebration? I was told that the only good thing that happened that day was there was lots of foods to feast on, not to mention it was all paid by the students and there was a few participants during the program. It was not so very well organized I heard and she wished that it will be over sooner.

All of her fellow classmates share the share sentiments and there's not a day that passes that they brag about new problems they face. They can't find any significant benefit of these non-sense activities (Acquaintance Party, Bayanihan concert, Raffle tickets, etc).

Really, she's confused if she can still stand the poor standard of teaching (the worst she says) compared to other school even though she still have a few months before graduating. Not to mention some of the CI's (questionable competence) are actually out of line when it comes to giving instructions to the point of embarrassing some students in the field.

For her, its really a waste of time considering they are there to gain knowledge and not to play some silly school programs. They should be focusing more on how they will elevate their learning to increase the competence of their students. My 2 cents.

loryn, i think your friend goes to the same school as we do hehe anyway, we do share the same problem.. is she a second courser too? anyway, i dont want to mention names or anything.. but what your friend said is exactly true.. there are (or is? hehe) instructors who really embarrass students when they're on duty in front of patients or fellow groupmates.. its really hard to concentrate on your studies when the school you go to is as bad as this one.. but i just try to keep my head up and keep a positive outlook.. so tell your friend who's having a hard time to just look on the brighter side and try to ignore the hang ups of the school... we can do this... just a little more time and a little more sacrifice and as soon as you know it, were already graduates!
