are hospitals accepting 2nd courser RN??

hi! im just wondering... do hospitals hire or give chances to 2nd coursers RN? i actually belong to that category and i have been applying to hospitals ever since i passed the June NLE 2007... unfortunately, not one hospital has called. somebody said that hospitals prefer those RN who arent 2nd coursers, is it true? i mean, i hope they give us chances... im only 25 and i think im competent enough like everybody else.

Good question! Sorry to hear that. I hope they do but with the numerous nursing students in the country, job for nurses is quite slim. Some apply to jobs not even related to nursing like call center or they go back to their previous career related to their first course. Keep on applying, don't give up, you'll never know what future brings. Try also applying in other countries. Don't close your doors to other opportunities.

As long as you meet their requirements, I don't see any reason why they won't accept second coursers. We're in the same shoes. We just have to be patient in waiting.

Yes, they do and that is based on my personal experience as a second courser. I also passed the June 2007 NLE (but originally, a June 2006 NLE passer). I don't think hospitals categorize their applicants by being a second courser or what. What is important to them is your credential, if you are trainable or not. That was what I was told when I was interviewed.

The fact that there are just too many nurse-applicants gives hospitals the whim of implementing stricter screening process. For instance, among my 10 co-trainees, 3 graduated as cum laude. In my observation, a good PRC rating will also help land you a job. Actually, I'm older than you are and got hired as a staff nurse twice (as a June 2006 passer and then as a June 2007 passer).

I suggest you work on boosting up your credentials - attend trainings, take up a master's degree, do volunteer work, etc. Actually, I have friends who are in your same situation. Two flew to Dubai, others opted to review for the NCLEX/IELTS, some
are persistently applying for a job and some landed in call centers.
All the best to you. Most often, prayers do help too. God bless.
