Hoping to enroll in Nursing

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I'm 32 and have kids, I guess I took matters of the heart seriously first before my college education. Anyway, I attended FEU for one year in 1998 to be a teacher but transferred to PNU because I qualified for a scholarship. I was only able to attend a semester because I found out I was pregnant. In 2003, I attended STI and took up IT for a sem. Then I came back in 2004 but got pregnant again. Well, I really need to take my studies seriously now because I am not getting any younger. And I will avoid everything that can ruin that now. Will any of the classes I've taken in the past, count if I start taking up Nursing now? Unfortunately I don't have my transcripts and I've never asked PNU for honorable dismissal yet. I hope I can make it for this sem... because I've lost so much valuable time in the past already. I'm thinking of enrolling at Fatima near SM Fairview because it is the closest one near my house. Is it a good school for Nursing? Also please give me ideas and suggestions too on what I can read on because I really want to be studious this time around. Thank you so much for your time. And goodluck to all of us aspiring to be nurses.

hi there! glad you could join us.

you can bring certified copies of all your college transcripts to a couple of nursing schools for evaluation. the admissions officer/registrar will tell you which of your previous subjects will be credited. general subjects such as English, Filipino, College Algebra, Natural Science, Art Appreciation, Logic, P.E., etc.. are usually credited. start early (3-4 months before enrollment) because there are thousands of applicants every semester. most schools give an entrance exam. when you pass, you will go through a medical/physical exam too and after that you will be given a clearance for enrollment. you will also be required to ask your previous school to send your transcripts and honorable dismissal certificate directly (or in a sealed envelope) to your new school. be ready also with a certificate of good moral character issued by the dean/guidance counselor from your previous school.

i suggest you also inquire with lanting college in tandang sora avenue http://www.lantingcollege.com/ and also kester grant college in quezon avenue very near EDSA. these two schools are not very far from your place in fairview. check their facilities, tuition, policies and hospital affiliation. you seriously consider these two schools, after checking them out.

for preparation, you can start to read college books on biology, general chemistry, zoology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology for nursing students. after reading those books, you can try to go over the book on fundamentals of nursing by barbara kozier, et. al. (international edition/ latest is probably 7th edition) published by pearson education/prentice hall (if you can get the colored print, it is much better).

i wish you the best in your nursing studies.
