help!

i am a dec 2007 passer. however, i have not been working in the field since then, except for some seminars and training last 2008.

should i leave and find another profession?

i've seen numerous job offers abroad which requires no exp. however it requires to be female and above 25. and i am not one of those.

i fear that my skills and knowledge are fading away. and i may not offer as good as i can when i was current(senior year and fresh grad).

i haven't found local opportunities yet. i've searched this forum as per my classmates' advice but almost all of the hospitals mentioned here haven't gave me the opportunity.

i don't want to go on studying and/or teaching as some people i know do when i haven't got the real experience yet.

any advice?

Try to work in the province if you have a place to stay there. Turn overs on the province is very high..

I emphatize with you and what we can do right now in this very trying nursing situation in the country is to be more patient and be more steadfast in our belief that we can overcome this. And we will.

I'm sorry to hear about this, and personally and I am saddened by this "inequality/bias" among employers...I have nothing against the female counterpart, however, I feel as is there is some sort of discrimination worldwide among hiring firms these days...They seem to prefer women over men, giving men fewer chances of landing a job or even just getting an experience of the job. Making this a catch-22 scenario for males who have dreams/goal of raising their family.

Locally in the Philippines, I would suggest that we males unite and suggest that congressmen/senators draft a bill that will protect the male population from such bias, even at the home country. Wherein there should be an equal proportion of male employees to female employees in a particular company, or something like that.

I pray for you and I share the sentiment that you have...You are not alone.

Discrimination to Male Nurses is really morale downing not to mention that there is also discrimination to Board Ratings. I still remember what my older brother who graduated from Nursing in 1990 said that during those times Hospitals will be the one calling up newly graduated nurses and luring them with lucrative offers to work at their institution. Also hear this guys requirements are only to follow upon hiring, Male/Female, and applicants are only asked if you passed the Board Exams and that's good enough for the Now-Corrupt-Hospital Management. Sigh.. Those days are gone..

I do agree with john83 that the government should quickly pass a bill that will protect us Male Nurses from unjust treatment and discrimination. They should also include a bill waving board ratings replacing them with certificates if you passed or failed the exams. That will help better protect not just Male Nurses but also Female Nurses alike.
