Help me understand the NLE, please

by Nemhain

Please help me understand what the NLE is. I've seen posts about the "nursing leakage". From what I understand, this is concerning the NLE, not the NCLEX. I'm really not familiar with the NLE (I'm American), is it something all of the nurses educated in the Philippines have to take before the NCLEX? Is it a licensing exam just for the Philippines?

Do Philippine nurses even have to take the NCLEX? If they do, then why all the fuss about the NLE exam? They won't be able to get the NCLEX questions ahead of time, so why can't that group that's in question take the NCLEX exam?

thank you,
Nemhain

It's an exam that Philippine graduates take to make them Philippine registered nurses. A Philippine graduate needs also to take and pass the NCLEX so he/she can practice nursing in the the US.
Some states in the US do not require a Philippine license for an applicant to sit for the NCLEX.

NLE is the Natiinal Licensing Exam in the Philippines and is held twice a year, it is similar to the old pencil and paper exams that each state had before the NCLEX exam was created.

The issues that you are hearing about is leaking of test questions before the exam on several different levels; from questions being given out by a review center to a review in a movie theater owned by a member of the PRC just before the exam. He says he did not cheat because his own son did not pass the exam.

There are also reports of cheating and fraud with the CGFNS exam, ans well as some with the NCLEX exam being given in Hong Kong, I cannot go into specifics on how you could do it with a CAT exam, but it can be done. There was also mention of the same system being used by a review center in CA on another forum.

The reason that you are hearing so much about all of this right now, is that is if a nurse wrote the exam in June, there is no license that has been issued, nor can the results be verified, as there is a case in court about it right now. If the nurse applied to a state before taking the exam, then they will be okay, maybe. It is still going to ask on the Visa Screen Certificate if they took a national exam, and they cannot leave that off. But if they applied afterwards, not one state has issued permission to sit for the exma, as licenses would have been issued in August, and no BON works that fast.

CGFNS is the one that does the CGFNS exam, plus the one that does the CES, which is a credentials review that many states no require, and they cannot grant the CES as their is no license number to validate, same thing for the Visa Screen Certificate.

Hope that answers every question and explains it well enough for you.
