Heads-up: Filipino RNs

Updated Jul 19, 2008 at 09:26 PM by lawrence01

Please be careful. A friend of mine got ripped off by a group of people using *********** (Canada) to bring registered nurses to Canada. Just to give you guys a heads up (especially to those responding to job ads posted online). This happened three weeks ago, but these people still continue to rip people off. I have a copy of the mail sent plus the link to that online ad, but am not sure if it is allowed to be posted on here. Just beware.

Those who wants further details, it would be best to just give the thread starter a Personal Message (PM) or e-mail.

The reason why we do not permit such things to be posted is to first and foremost protect people here from harassment as many of you may not be aware of but employers do read our forums. Secondly, posting it would just give them undue publicity and people who are desperate would never see the negatives but only the so-called positives w/c every agency preaches anyway.

Sensitive topics such as this are best done thru our PM system.

Thank you for understanding.

Thanks for posting this and there is absolutely nothing wrong by posting such things. Both sides of the coin should be given.

**To all others, reading the thread:

Be aware of people that are really pushing things too much for comfort and being too defensive if someone is playing the Devils' advocate.

Always suspect that such people may either be connected to the agencies they keep pushing or maybe getting monetary benefits out of it. There is no harm in playing safe and always suspect so until proven not.

Also, always ask for a copy of the contract to be taken home for review by you and by others you trust. If they do not permit copies of it to be taken home first and wants it to be signed up front on their offices then they are playing on your impulse.

If you signed the contract, there is no turning back and unfortunately many people here only asks questions after they have signed the contract. There is nothing much you can do if something has been signed already. The research should have been done first before signing anything and not the other way around.

Thank you for the reminder.

I just want to clarify something. The establishment I posted above has got nothing to do with the job advert posted online and is probably unaware that such people exist, using their agency to get these innocent nurses to pay for a small amount of fee (in exchange for "getting all the paperworks done").

Just be careful ok. Make sure you are responding to a valid advert. And if there is money involved--do some more research and think twice before you make your move.
