you don't actually need to spend to enrol in a review center but rather invest on something you could still use in your nclex review..
you just need to have a good review materials, lots of discipline & remain focus. don't forget to study IMCI & the white DOH book. I also read several lippincott series-MS,pedia,maternal. I also used MS by udan.

Thanks spongebob6286. That's exactly what I'm planning to do. I'm hesitant to enroll in a review center but my parents are encouraging me to do so. I'm planning to buy the Udan's books: Series I and Series II (designed for NCLEX review).

What particular review materials is good for IMCI?

the best review place for me is at Starbucks.. love it... the ambiance is cozy and you can listen to music while reading/reviewing notes (way how i review).. it works for me, but doesn't necessary mean it'll work for you 100%.. heads up though, if you're planning to enroll to a review center, all that they'll be doing is to sorta arrange your review sched and mandate you to review the specific topic for the specific day (eg. med/surg - monday, pedia - tues, funda - wed, etc).. i think you can do that by yourself.. you just need to focus and discipline yourself.. but, i guess KAPLAN has a great review center for local.. since i barrowed and photocopied a material (from my friend who reviwed there) and it help a lot.. the material that i barrowed is for imci.. they summarized it and it made it easier to understand.. i asked for additional hand outs, but my friend told me that they dont give out copies of the pre test (test that you'll take and rationalize after)...but they'll supply you with 1-50 post test instead.. but this doesn't have a rationalization.. only the answers which they will post days after they gave you the post test.. plus, she said that the tuition fee is cheap, as compare to other review centers..

review centers are cool, but if your confident and knowledgable enough, no doubt that you'll gonna pass the exam.. my only advice, if you'll be enrolling in a review center, try to consider the following:
1. location (should be accesible),
2. tuition fee (with the crisis that we're experiencing right now, you should spend wisely),
3. popularity (this is just my opinion.. try to stay away with the well marketed review centers.. why?? 2 words: money making!!! for sure, they're conducting reviews at hotels, big places, etc.. so the focus of learning will diminish instead it will diverted to a stand up comedy format)

just review all the notes you had especially med surg of udan, imci, use a lot of common sense, do not open a single book, notes or any material 1 or 2 days before the exam (chilax and treat yourself) and most importantly pray... good luck...

From my own point of view, you don't need a review center to pass the board exam! There are lots of nurses who top the NLE with just reviewing on their own. Review centers will just review... you on your passed lessons. It's good because they can also share their own experiences on the exam and give you some strategies that are very helpfull.

Let me just share to you how I reviewed for NLE. I bought a test questionnaires in front of PRC. I answered exams from year 1999-2006. Of course I didn't answer all. Maybe just around 4,000 questions for 2 months excluding the review. I answered those questions before I sleep. I never pressured myself. Not to mention my sister was the one who pressured me because she took the board exam after her 3 take. Anyway... I never let her get over me. I just enjoyed what I was doing. Sometimes I wonder how I knew some of the questions. But be sure to get 85% on every test. You should have a high goal!

Then there it goes... Board day! I got sick! hahaha....

Try talking with friends about other topics other than the board exam. Passed the board first take...

DONT FORGET, be CONFIDENT and PRAY!!!

I would really recommend the Fundamentals of nursing book.. my friend and I read it again during our senior year, cover to cover.. And I must say it really helped us a lot, it brought us back to the basics of nursing care..

Also, during your vacant days, try to take mock exams just like the NLE, 100 items during 8-10 and then another from 11-1 and then lastly from 2-4 and then repeat it all over the next day.. Not only did those exercises challenged me (because I would usually doze off during the afternoon ), it also prepared me enough to be mentally and physically alert during those sleepy hours.

Just pray a lot and claim that the Lord will help you pass..
