The thing is she has taken the local board and will need to declare it. It would really be better for her to pass local boards. There are a couple of threads recently that answer similar questions in here and the Phillipine forum, better have a read

The NLE is not required for licensure in the US. However, if the nurse takes it, he or she must pass it. That is a requirement to be able to get a Visa Screen Certificate as well.

They have no choice but to rewrite that exam. And out of my curiosity, did your friend write just sections 3 and 5, or the entire exam?

She definitely needs to pass it to be able to work in the US.
The reason that I was asking about parts 3 and 5 as there are those here that did not pass this last exam with just taking the retest of these two sections.

Actually incorrect. First, there is no application for the NCLEX exam, there is only one for licensure as an RN to the Board of Nursing for the state where you wish to get licensed. NCLEX is only one step in the process and you need to have approval from a state to be able to sit for it. There is no way to apply directly for it.

And the US government does not require the NLE be written for licensure, the issue is that if the nurse writes it, then they need to pass it in order to get a Visa Screen Certificate that is needed for immigration purposes. And if the exam was passed, then the PRC just needs to provide proof of the passing, you do not need to wait for a license number to be issued.

Please take the time to read the Primer on the International Forum, there is much information that you need to have.

...Motivate your friend and tell her to use the NLE as a review for for her future NCLEX...most nurses I know of say that once you pass NLE, NCLEX should be a breeze to take...plus if she's not going to pass her NLE, she won't make a good impression to the board of nurses in the US...

Ms.Suzanne, Please correct me if I'm wrong. If a BSN grad didn't attempt to take the NLE, then NLE is not needed in Visa Screen Certificate (for immigration) and State Lincensure. The VSC is a country wide policy while the State Lincensing varies from state to state.

According to the PRIMER, there are some states that require NLE, can you please list those states? Is Illinois one of them? How about Kentucky and Indiana?
