Hi everyone! i would just like to ask everybody's opinion about taking up an EMT course since it is health-related. does it give me an advantage over other RN's? As far as i know also EMT's are mostly volunteers so money-wise i cant really get much out of it?

And also can anybody share info, experiences, anything that can help me decide in taking up an EMT course.

wah! sorry, my mistake. there's no paramedic nursing forum.hehe just flight nursing and transport nursing. i think paramedic nursing thread can be found under that forum.

I am a registered nurse and it's my dream to become an EMT-Nurse. The work of an EMT is mostly on a pre-hospital setting. If you are going to take an EMT course as an RN it will be an advantage on your part because you already have knowledge on the medical terms unlike those who are not medically inclined. It will also be an advantage if you are an EMT nurse, because you might end up working as an ER nurse.

BLS is a requirment,but it is already included in the curriculum so no need to take a separate training before enrolling. what's your location? if you're in metro manila, there's one in cubao. here's the address..

training takes 7 weeks in the classroom (280hrs M-F 0900H-1700H) then you will have your OJT (250hrs) in your EMS of choice so that you can have your PSEMT certification as an EMT-B. it's your option if you want to get registered by the Australasian registry of EMT's, you no longer have to take the certification exam coz they have direct reciprocity. EMT-B(basic) is just the first level. it's up to you if you want to reach up to EMT-P(paramedic) level. but, it really is costly.. Php. 20K for the 7 week training.

you provided a very informative post!..Metro Manila is accessible to where I am, so no problem with that.

By the way, Is it required that one be an RN first before enrolling to that program? coz I may ask some of my non-RN friends to join with me. And do they require some sort of EMT experience as an admission requirement?

sure! even those with non-medical background can become an EMT,actually it's not an specialization course or whatsoever, it's another profession so no need to be an RN. but here's the disadvantage, those with non-medical background should be well prepared before taking up the course because it's not that easy, even those with previous medical backgrounds fail... yup! including RN's. but, in my batch, an American without medical background topped the class. hehe! if you're friends are BSN grads, that's fine, i took the course while waiting for the NLE results. but if your friends are non-medicals, better visit the school first so that you can have a talk with the admin.

glad to know that morse Pinoy nurses are getting intersted in Pre-hospital care..
