why does this thread above say that you don't need cgfns anymore? Only 4 states? I'm just confused because of different things i'm hearing.
When people say here that only 4-5 sates now require the CGFNS exam/certification they always presume the "popular" states.

Please understand that foreign nurses going to US usually go to the "more-popular" states and not on "less-popular" states such as Alaska, Alabama, Maine, Georgia, Virginia, etc..

This forum is filled with all the pertinent links to websites for nurses to be able to do the process on their own. I suggest that you go to Virginia's website and find out their req'ts for yourself. You will go their website anyway to download the forms and order the fingerprint cards (if needed by their BON).

You will certainly be confused if you just depend on what other people say and not find out for yourself. If you depend too much on other people spoon-feeding you all the info. then you will be getting diff. answers and opinions as info. depends on one's interpretation.

THe problem is, to take the cgfns I need local board exam in the Philippines so there is no possible way I can get license by exam in Virginia. RIght now I'm looking for states that do not require cgfns exam which is why I brought up this about only 4 states requiring now.. even suzzane the moderator said there is only 4 states requiring now but in here it seems like she is saying the opposite.

Can you please go here and read what they are saying here?
NCLEX without CGFNS

I need to find a state nearby that does not require the cgfns. THanks.

Please understand that Suzanne and posters here always presume that nurses don't go to less popular states such as virginia, alaska, georgia, alabama, maine, etc.. these states usu. need the CGFNS exam. Among the the 4-5 states (that donlt need the CGFNS exam) that are always said here are those among the "more popular" states that foreign nurses usually go to.

Yes. pls. do research on other states nearby virgina that do not need the the cgfns exam for initial licensure. ANother way of doing it is find out if virginia will still need the CGFNS exam if endorsing from another state. Some states don't require it anymore if endorsing; so what other nurses do is apply for initial licensure from a state that don't require the cgfns exam then endorse to the state they intend to go to. effectively by-passing the cgfns exam req't.

A good example is PA. It needs the the CG exam for initial licensure but only the CES if endorsing from another state.

Joone already provided the link for virginia's instructions for initial licensure and endorsement. Pls read them.

Please always maintain respect when in a public forum at all times.

hi there! just want to share this info if you are interested. states near to virginia that do not require the cgfns exam for initial licensure are north carolina, south carolina, maryland, ohio, or new york (if ok with you). these states require credentials evaluation service (CES) thru the cgfns organization. CES does not involve an exam.

the state BONs that do not require a cgfns exam do not also require you to be licensed in your country of education. but CGFNS CES appears to require such license because of the form "request for validation of license" included in the handbook found in the cgfns website (although this is not very clear). i understand though that there is a possibility that cgfns CES will waive that requirement of license validation if you explain to them that you do not have a license anywhere and that you have confirmed that the BON of the state (which will receive the CES report) does not require such license from your country of education. you can also consider going to the office of CGFNS in nearby philly to personally explain your case after you get a confirmation from the BON. read also the instructions for CES in the website.

hope this helps.

yes the cgfns requires candidates to passed the Philippine Nursing board exam. i think also with the visa screen ever if the state board of nursing doesnt require the to be license of the counrty of origin but when you apply for the visa screen they will asked for the licensed verification of country of origin. i hope i am right
