It seems that the current US president George W. Bush is "anti-family".

I was greatly saddened upon seeing this news report in the tv program "Bandila" on April 20, 2007 Friday night Philippine time.

President Bush will be crushing the hopes of many Filipinos and their families with his recent proposal. He is just lucky because he is a natural born American enjoying what USA has to offer. Let say, what if the situation was reversed, that he is a Filipino and there is an American president who will propose such? Will he be happy with this plan when he is considering to migrate to the USA with his family?

Why go against these people who want to be in the US with their families legally? The culture of greed and evil still exists even to the very people who lead a country as exemplified by such person. I hope this will be a strong message for all who will be electing their leaders, please vote wisely.

Before things gets out of hand... This has nothing to do w/ nurses at all. Nurses are petitioned via employment-based petition and under Schedule A (workers they are short of) w/c also allocates a green card to their immediate family (spouse and children ages 21 and below).

The proposal is only for family petitions. Any US citizen or green card holder can file a petition for their immediate family. A nurse (that will be given a green card via an employment-based petition) does not need to file a family petition for their spouse and children and in fact are part of the visa allocation if the nurse has included them when s/he signs in the DS-230 forms. So, as far as foreign-educated nurses who are legally working in the US are concerned, they need not worry.

Lawrence is 100% correct on this. As long as your family members are included on your DS-230, then there is no worry for the nurse. They will be given a visa the same time as the nurse.

Parents and siblings will have to wait, and that will be a long length of time, just as it has been already. No instant fix for that. And do not expect that there will be.

If someone does not want to work and live in the US, then they do not need to. Simple as that.

Suggest that you look at some of the laws of other countries. Then come back and post. The US is actually much more liberal in that account than many.

The USA and Canada are lands of immigrants and they have and continue to accept more people than anywhere else in the world. The rules will change at different times to accommodate the economy and what the country can bear. No one here is against families.. however blaming it on greed and evilness is way out of line. Just because the make rules and laws that you don't agree with does not make someone evil or greedy...
If you believe that why would you want to come to the USA or North America... I would say that owning as many pairs of shoes as one of your previous leaders did while there is extreme poverty in their country is greedy... How about the corruption that goes on over there... by the way it is all over the world. So please do not make out that it is worse here, it is not!!! That is my personal opinion. The USA has a right to make its own rules a a sovereign nation. Yes in order to come here you will need to abide by them. It is wrong to make that kind of generalized statement. Just how many Philippinos are there in the USA????
I am sure this number would not reflect a policy of not allowing them to come to the USA. However just maybe the USA would like to allow other countries to have the same opportunity your country men have been afforded. How much money is sent back to the Philippines????
The climate for immigration for anyone right now is not good... there have been too many issues over the last few years and they are overhauling the immigration policy here. So there are many things put forth, however there is no concensus at this time.

For a simple reason:

America is not to be identified by one president who proposes these rules. He is not America therefore, it doesn't necessarily follow that since I don't like his proposal, I'll just forget about the American dream. Fallacy of non-sequitor as logic would say.

No problem, as I believe there are numerical allocations for the different countries. How much money? I don't know. The point is, everyone works for it and it is used to sustain a family, a life. If you are not happy with it, fine, it's your opinion. Before one does something, one has to carefully think it over for a couple of times. As I've said, I'm merely reacting to his proposal.

I'd like to conclude with this:

God has given man the freewill to choose what is good and bad. However, this freedom must be carefully exercised with responsibility. In the end, we will all face our Creator who will judge us all with perfect justice.

It will have an impact on nurses for example, if a nurse is single upon entry to the US, then later, one decides to marry.

The issue is not on the country, but the current president, George W. Bush who spoke of such proposal. I want to live and work in the US, and bring my family there, that is why when he brought out that proposal, I was greatly saddened...I wouldn't react his way if I didn't want to(work and live there)...

You are single, so there is not a family member that can be included on your DS-230. No spouse and no children. Your parents will need to wait, same with siblings; just like everyone else that wishes to bring their family members to the US. And about ten years plus for those from PI, since there are so many that already have petitioned family members in front of you.

If you like things so much better in your country with your politicians, stay there. If you do not like the policies in the US, don't come.

If a nurse who will be given a green card (pathway to being a US citizen) is going in as single-entry, he or she is expected to fully assimilate with his new country and local community. Assimilation includes finding some one and starting a family from the new host country.

Now, if the host country says that their family-based petitions is so stressed up and they can no longer accommodate and give visas then that is their prerogative. Visas are not unlimited. The family-based petitions from the PI is so backlogged and retrogressed for so many years that immigration lawyers are not even advising someone go through it anymore if they can be petitioned by other means, such as employment-based petitions. Immigration lawyers will always say hands-down that if you have the means to be petitioned via EB, the better because being petitioned via FB coming from the PI takes so long that sometimes it isn't worth it and not worth their time.

So many relationships, gets tested year-in and year-out for those unmarried and awaiting to immigrate. It's either they hasten their plan to get married before the one being petitioned signs the DS-230 forms or they just end the relationship and never go back. Simple as that and this what is being done for years. The decision has to come before the DS230 forms are signed because everyone knows that being petitioned via family-based petition takes years if coming from the Philippines.

Now, for parents and siblings. Majority of parents do choose and are happy with just a Visitor's Visa. It is good for 6 mos. and may even be extended. More than enough for some to visit their children and they have the benefit of going back to the Philippines come fall and winter time. They will go back to the PI, no matter what. Just a matter of time. They keep their properties back home as that is their fruit and labor. They have the best of both worlds already w/ just a visitor's visa. They can visit their children in the US for 6 mos. or more (if extended) and treat their home country as a summer vacation come winter time in the US.

For siblings, majority do not let their immigrant siblings petition them anymore as it will take years as previously stated and they would rather study again even if it will take another 4 years or so just to be petitioned via EB as that will still be the fastest route. And this is what majority are doing, already.

Everything is covered for nurses. Nothing is taken away. If the family-based petition is efficient and not very backlogged then there might be some point that something is being taken away but with the current FB system and how backlogged and retrogressed it is, nothing really is being taken away. Many in fact are already shunning away from it, as far as if coming from PI.

And besides, it is really the host country's prerogative and it is not non-US Citizens that sets the immigration policies. Being a 'bad' or a 'good' proposal (and it is only a proposal at this point) wouldn't matter. The host always sets the rules and the guests would have to follow.
