yeah I would say def keep that job. I've been applying to hospitals all over trying to get anything i can but haven't been successful. I figured even if I get a job making $10 an hr at least it would be an in for when we graduate..I think I'm just oover qualified and they probably assume I would want too much money. I've been an Office Manager for over 5 years and I've been applying for administrative/clerical work..I just wish they understood I'm willing to take low pay just to be in a hospital setting. - Apr 25, '12 by bcolli11I haven't had a job since 08' and that's largely due to my undergraduate study. There was really no way to have one and even if I did, there was really nothing on campus that interest me. I probably won't have a job this fall either but I want one because there maybe extra expenses that I did not think of and I want to be prepared should that occur. Being broke is no fun at all but I figure as long as I have what I need for school and everything involving school is taken care of than other things that don't involve school has to be put on the back burner !!!!cupidsqueen420 likes this.
- Apr 25, '12 by bcolli11Quote from ManScrubzWhat are your job duties there ? Definitely sounds like a place I would be interested in once I graduateYea I have a course to take every semester along with nursing...it wont be that bad because it's all mental and I have a strong mindset and drive to succeed...as far as employment I am definitley keeping my job...I work for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Nursing Department for the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs...it wasnt easy to get so I wont quit...seeing how I work 3rd shift and only work 3 hours out of an 8 hour shift ill have plenty time to study...the broke college student cliche isnt cool anymore

Cupidsqueen - I've been applying all over the place for clerical work, too. Finally I decided to start volunteering in the hospital for the summer. It may help me later on and certainly can't hurt. Yes, maybe they do think we're overqualified. I thought it would be easier to get a job that only requires a GED.
My husband's been really supportive and awesome, so he's happy help me if I can't work. For this reason I'm glad I waited a while to go to nursing school. I think it will be easier for us to get jobs as CNA's if we can hold out a semester before working. My mom just finished her CNA and she had two job offers before she even took her test. - Apr 25, '12 by cupidsqueen420Quote from shahoo05Shahoo, yeah you would think just needing a GED we could get a job easier but I guess there are a lot of people who didn't go to college out there..lol I keep forgetting about the CNA thing.. you've given me hope..hehe That being said maybe I could just get a loan for this coming semester and see what happens after that. Good idea volunteering.. I may look into that as well. I guess we will be all seeing eachother in a few weeks now.. its coming fast. I can't wait.Manscrubz - Yes, you're making the right decision to keep your job. It will be hard but you can do it. I'll always be taking one class along with nursing, too. Glad to know about the CNA qualification.
Anyone else taking Microbiology this summer at main campus? - Apr 27, '12 by bcolli11Will this be anyone's second degree ? I'm asking because I have to figure out some other way to pay for besides loans. My undergraduate used all of that up so I was wondering , if this is anyone's second degree, how are you all paying for it ?
- Apr 27, '12 by bcolli11I guess scholarships and what not but does CCP offer scholarships for nursing ? They probably due but with today's economy, you can never be to sure !!!
- Apr 27, '12 by ManScrubzQuote from bcolli11Im a cna...since i work 3rd shift i don't do anything really...i do vitals and refresh water and just make sure that my residents are comfortable and sometimes i have to take urine or stool specimens. I plan to stay with the state but once i apply as a rn you just get placed as needed...most likely correctional facilities...RNs only make about 65,000 starting with the commonwealthWhat are your job duties there ? - Apr 29, '12 by cupidsqueen420Quote from bcolli11CCP has a General Scholarship App where you can apply to roughly 30 different scholarships that are available. You would have to check to see which ones you qualify for and also check the application deadlines for each but all you need is a letter of recommendation from one of the instructors at CCP and to write an essay.I guess scholarships and what not but does CCP offer scholarships for nursing ? They probably due but with today's economy, you can never be to sure !!!
