West Penn School of Nursing?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Has anyone attended the western Pennsylvania School of Nursing? If so id like to know if you liked it and why and would you recommend it to me as a male?

Would anyone be able to answer how the Nursing ATI test is or have taken it and can give me some pointers? I've been studying it, but to me it seems like you have to actually go in knowing a lot rather then anything being logic based. Does that mean I'm just going to have to basically learn everything about the body and all that before the test? How do people usually score on this test?

Dont sweat it, you cant really study for it until you start the program when they give you the study book. Besides all you need to do is get a level 1 on it to pass which is basically signing your name and filling in the right numbers for the test. its like taking your SAT, you get 300 pts just for filling in your name right. everyone gets level one unless you really really screw up the exam. But also if for some reason you dont get a level one on the ATI all you have to do is pass the final which is the easiest of the nursing exams. very basic questions. Dont worry about the ATI, its not hard and if you get a level 2 which most ppl get, you get about 3 extra credit pts to your grade and a level 3 gives you anywhere between 6-7 extra credit pts but really hard to get except in 101 is probably the easiest. When you come here, just focus on nursing exam #1 and go from there. you dont take the ATI until the last week of the semester anyway, so you have lots of time to study it which most ppl dont anyway cause its a waste of time. I might be here when the freshman class comes in, i have all the notes, drugs, caremaps and projects but i might be transfering out due to possiblity of what might happen to the school if the seniors dont do well on their state boards. scary times at west penn hospital school of nursing, but im sure they didnt tell you guys about that!!!

What will happen if the seniors don't do well on their state boards?

the school can be put on probation

Oh, wow. O_O; That's not good. Thank you for your help though! Yeah, this is the first ATI I take before even starting school yet. I want to make a good impression but looking at the test I'm just really worrying.

Specializes in hospice, ortho,clinical review.

The school is already on probation.

I'm a graduating senior. Today! :bowingpur

The class before us were known to be slackers. They're the ones who pulled the stats down and who made it much more difficult for those following. There were a "handful" of really awesome nurses though, however yes they did extremely lousy on the boards as a whole, I know people who were extremely succussful b/c they applied what was taught and took it seriously.

Our class is one of the biggest. We started out with 85 and are graduating 63. Not all of that is a straight loss as some people who fail out of certain terms will come back and join the next class for a different semester. Some of the people we lost are now in the class behind us.

We were constantly told by the instructors that our class was "better overall" than the last in achievement and mostly attitude. So honestly as long as the class behind us does well, they'll get back on their feet. Frankly I have no concerns overall of our class doing well on the boards, as opposed to the previous class, we only have a handful that may be questionable to passing, but it showed the whole way through the program how they just literally squeaked by.

They upped our preceptor hours from 80 to 200 this year and they brought in a different instructor for our NCLEX review compared to last year. This lady is one of the coordinators for the Rayfield program. I'm undecided on how helpful that was. I like the books provided, but I still plan to do my intenste studying on my own with Saunders etc....

The school has "some" awesome instructors who really do care if you let them. If you walk in with an attitude thinking this will be a breeze and blow off studying etc, then yeah....you'll find that will come to bite you in the A when the semesters get tougher. I'm graduating with high honors so it can be done.

I'm saying don't be scared off b/c of the rumors. It's the people that make up the class that have screwed the stats not the school or the instructors IMO

Good luck....I can't believe I'm on the other side finally!:yeah:

There have been rumors (and that is exactly what they may be) that some students who without a doubt failed a class were given points to pass! That could be the reason for the poor pass rate on NCLEX. Just a thought

I have books for West Penn school of Nursing if anyone attending there is interested. Please do not spend the hundreds and hundreds of dollars on books! I will be happy to sell them at 1/2 the price. It's ridiculous what they charge for books. I realize that some of the editions change from year to year but let me know which ones they are suggesting and I will see if I can help you.

My name is Katie, and I am attending West Penn Nursing School this coming August. I have to go and take the pre-nursing school test tomorrow morning. I read one of the replies about the test, so I am not too worried. To anyone who is currently enrolled, are there any specific requirements for having a laptop in school? I haven't bought mine yet, and since I am staying at the school I don't want to take a desktop and waste space. If there are requirements, can you tell me them? Thanks!

Hi,

I am starting West Penn in Aug. and would love to know which books you have. If you could email me each one and the price you are asking. I would love to save as much $$$ as possible
