Hi!

Anybody here from the UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing - Evening/Weekend Program?

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.

*wave* I am.... I'll answer any questions you have...

Hi! I'm new to allnurses.com and I'm waiting to hear about acceptance to UPMC Shadyside. Does anyone know what they base their acceptance on?

I applied to the Evening/Weekend program and I'm a nervous wreck waiting to hear from them!

All I did was submit my transcripts and had the letters of reference sent in and took the entrance exam. I was kind of surprised that they never called me in for an interview, but sent me an acceptance letter around beginning of May I think.

Hi,

I'm in my 3rd year of the E/W program at Shadyside. Let me know if I can help.

Jenn

Hi, Jenn! What do you think of the E/W program? What is the work like? I understand that the first year of classes are taken at Chatham college....how close is that to the school? They said that there is a shuttle.....is that how you get there or can you go straight to Chatham by yourself? Do you know how much of your acceptance is based on your entrance exam scores? Sorry for all of the questions........I have a million of them!

The Chatham teachers come to the school of nursing. The only thing we went to the college for was labs on weekends. (micro lab and A&P I and II) It is fairly close to the school and on the weekends you can park at the college instead of street parking.

I really love the E/W program. I don't think I could do it any other way. The teachers are awesome and very willing to help. The classes are hard but it can be done if you put forth the effort. All the tests are NCLEX type questions so it starts you critically thinking from day one.

Clinicals are nice to. There are small groups and most of the floors are very welcoming to us. It is also nice we start clinicals fairly quickly in the education that way we are not so scared when we get to the harder classes.

Please let me know if there is anything else you need.

Thanks for the response, Jenn. For me to do this, I need an E/W program, and Shadyside SON sounds like such a good school. When do they start clinicals in the part time program? Do you go to different hospitals or just to Shadyside? I really want this. I hope that they approve my application.......I watch for the mail every day to see if I get "the letter". Wish me luck!

We start clinicals in the 4th semester. (total of 12) We don't go to just Shadyside. They use Presby, Magee, Children's, Braddock, Western Psych, South Side (basically all UPMC).

Best of luck to you. Keep me posted.

Jenn

Thanks, Jenn. I'll let you know when I know.

One more question......when they send you your letter, is it in a regular envelope or is it in a manilla envelope? Also, do you know if they send out rejection letters if you don't get in? Sorry for all the questions....I just want to be prepared.

I didn't remember for sure, so I dug out my acceptance letter. There are no folds in it, so it must have come in a big envelope. I seem to remember there was some other stuff in the envelope also. I also looked through my e-mails, and found that I had received my acceptance letter by May 8 (probably on May 8).

Good luck.

Dan
