Hi everyone! I took my PSB on march 22 and passed!! I was so relieved because it was one of the lasts tests that I could take to apply for this year. Just wondering about the essay part when putting together all of my stuff to send in with my application...like I read the mission statement and everything...does it have to be a certain length or amount of words?...also how long did it take those of you who got in to get your acceptance letter after sending in your application? thanks!!

The essay is supposed to be 300-350 words and explain what being a nurse means to you. Just be honest and write from your heart. You generally hear something back about 2 weeks after everything has been received.

Question for somebody already in the program: I only need to take Foundations during the 1st semester. Can anyone tell me about how many days a week I'll have class/clinicals? Thanks!

Hey everyone! I'm currently in the application process for UPMC Mercy, second choice Shadyside. I am from a small town about 40 min south of Pittsburgh, and I'm 18 years old and currently a freshman at Penn State main campus. When I applied, I was afraid that I couldn't handle the science and math courses of PSU's nursing program, so I chickened out and applied to be a business major instead. I spent my entire first year taking business courses and have come back to the realization that my passion is nursing. Unfortunately PSU does not accept change of major students into the nursing program, so I can't stay here and need to transfer.

Anyways, I visited both UPMC Mercy and Shadyside and Mercy was just a better fit for me. The clinicals are mainly in Mercy Hospital (so no traveling all over the place all the time) which is important for me.. It has the highest NCLEX pass rate out of the UPMC schools of nursing... Parking for students... There were a lot of things that contributed to my decision for my first choice. Mercy seems like a good fit for me, aside from one thing: they seem VERY, VERY religious. When I visited, the nice lady who showed me around even told me that the students pray before every test together. I was raised Catholic and my family is still religious, however; I am not. Do any of you know about how prevalent religion will be in the education and if it will really be that big of a deal if I'm not religious? It's a wonderful school and my mother just told me to overlook it, which is my plan. I honestly don't think it should be a problem at all, because I don't mind if people pray or are very religious or anything like that. Anyone else in this situation?

Also, I hope I am accepted and get to meet and know you all! I am currently just waiting on my two letters of recommendation. I have everything else done! :)

Natural girl - no I haven't started studying yet, but i did they the practice tests on the website and I got all the questions right. I might do a little research the week or so before the test, but I think I'll pass without a problem.
