St. Margarets Nursing School

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

I plan to apply to St. Margarets SON (Pittsburgh Pa) next spring. I currently have a 3.7 GPA at CCAC with 2 classes to go before all of my pre-reqs are complete. I was wondering how hard it is to get into their program, and what current students thoughts were on the school.

Thank you! I know it's going to be super intense from everything I have heard! I am definitely ready to commit and give my life to school! I just want to get in I can't believe its taking so long to find out! I don't know what I am going to do if I don't get in! Do you know if there are any other conclusions they come to while reviewing your application, like hold? Or is it just accept or deny? Sorry for all the questions i have been freaking out ever since I have applied!

I know they sometimes do hold an application. If you are missing any requirements they definitly will hold it, or if they want to see other pre/co-requisite grades first they may hold, I have heard of them doing that. It is all at the discression of the admission committee from what I hear. Though if you have a solid application you stand a good chance at getting in. Do keep us updated.

Thanks for the support everyone!!! I will keep you updated! I really hope I get in!! If not I know that I'm not going to give up no matter what. I just hope I get in sooner than later, especially becauses its almost a tease working alongside nurses all day =)

Kay, Have you heard back from St. Margarets yet?

Its unlikely. Admission meeting was today at 1, so the soonest they would go in the mail is tomorrow....and depending on how many letters there were to make up, they may not even be done in time to go out tomorrow. Tuesday or Wednesday would be best bet. I am pretty sure my letter came the wednesday after a thursday admission meeting.

No!! I didn't hear anything yet. I know they met today and my app was supposed to be reviewed today. Unfotunately, I will not be able to get my mail this week since I will be at the beach all week so my mother has to get my mail and check it faithfully and tell me the over the phone! I didn't get my hopes up though because I know a ton of people applied for Feb and they only accept like 35 students max from what I heard! :(

Lol, sounds like a stress free vacation. Luckily we have JGUY to set us straight (thanks!). Enjoy the vacation, I'm sure it will work out. Have you considered applying to some of the other diploma programs? I live south of Butler so St. Margs is definitelythe closest, but I am seriously considering Mercy as my back up.

Yes, I am considering Mercy as my backup. The only downfall is they only admit once every August. I really don't want to wait a year because I only have one class to finish this fall. I feel like I am just waisting time! I took the PSB for Shadyside also but they want all four subjects to be above 80 instead of a 65. I got high above 80 in every subject except for vocabulary! I got a 78 in vocabulary. I was so upset when I called the school to see if I could retake the test they told me I would have to take a class out in Monroeville for the vocabulary part. I called the school and they said it cost 300$ for an 8hour class to teach me basically 8th grade vocabulary which I found very insulting because I passed ENG 102 with an A (thats not good enough to retake the test...hmmm can you say all about money). I was nervous taking the PSB and focused on harder areas of the test! My fault!! So I ruled shadyside out for now!

I bought a book that helped me a ton for the PSB. It had practice tests and only cost 12 dollars. It told you all about each nursing entrance test offered and what subjects are on which tests and tips for test taking. I'll give you the name of it when I come back from the beach =)

***UPDATE** I haven't recieved my letter yet so I decided to call the school. I couldn't be more upset when I talked to Carol today. My app was origionally set to be reviewed July 14 and now I was told that the date had been changed to Sept 22nd. When I had asked why I was told that the committee was doing something new where they are reviewing the studens who have all their courses completed first. I am so upset because the only course I have left to complete this fall is AP2. It only makes sense to apply for FEB because I will have all my courses completed in DEC. I am so frustrated because I applied on MAY 12th and thats an awfully long time to wait for a response. I feel like its not fair the students who get their applications in first should be reviewed first but I can't change the rules. It just doesn't make sense to me because that is a course that is allowed to be completed along with the nursing curriculum. I am applying to other schools in the meantime just to ease my mind but St. Margarets is still my first choice!

I'm so sorry to hear that Kay. On the upside though you will have all of your prereqs completed by Dec. Should you maybe send them a copy of your fall schedule just to reiterate that you will have all of your classes finished?

I already told them. I don't think it will matter to them if I send them a schedule! They just started this as I was told. I wish they would have sent some sort of notification that certain peoples application review dates have changed. I would have gone crazy all week if I wouldn't have called. I don't see why it matters since AP2 is a course that is allowed to be completed as you are in the program, even though mine will be done. Like I said theres nothing I can do about it but wait until after Sept 22nd. That will be a total of 5 months I have had to wait for a response, its just very nerve racking!! Hey by the time I hear a response we will probably be in the same class haha!!
