Scranton or Allenstown Nurseries / NICUs?

Specializes in NICU.

I looking at relocating to the Scranton or Allenstown area and want to be within about 45 min. of either airport as my husband is a pilot. Not being familiar with the area hospitals, I'm trying to find hospitals that have level I or II nurseries. I've found the larger city hospitals, but am having trouble finding out lying ones. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Specializes in Trauma ICU, MICU/SICU.

Lehigh Valley Hospital has a NICU. I don't know how NICU's work. I work trauma. Higher number higher acuity isn't it? Pretty high acuity though, I know. Also St. Luke's Hospital has a NICU, not as high acuity as LVH.

Scranton hospitals are pretty rural and they medevac a lot of patients to us. Some pretty scary stories out of hospitals in that area. Plus ABE (Lehigh Valley International Airport) is a bigger airport I think.

Allentown is a busy city and there are a lot of nice places to live in the surrounding area, from farms to suburbs, to inner city. I've lived in the Allentown-Bethlehem for 3.5 years and like it a lot.

Community Medical Center in Scranton. Also Moses Taylor. Both are Level III.

LVH is a III also and Magnet. Good luck!

I forgot about Wilkes Barre! Try Wilkes Barre General Hospital and Geisinger. I think they have level IIs.

Specializes in Pediatrics Only.

Community Med Center is a good one. I worked in the hospital for over a year as a CNA, and did my student nurse internship in their NICU.

Has Level 2 and 3, takes about 15max on each side. No Surgeries. Those babies are shipped out to Hershey Med Center.

If I remember correctly, Moses Taylor has a good rep.

Good luck!

Geisinger NICU is Level III. I believe it is the same level as Hershey Med. They have multiple peds specialties available in house. I recently attended a STABLE course taught there. Very impressive nursing staff! It is a ways from Scranton, maybe 40 miles? Good luck in your job hunt.

Specializes in ED, trauma, flight.

don't know if you've moved yet...I work at LVH and for HUP. LVH has a great NICU and PICU. Level I trauma, peds and burn specialty certs. We receive patients from everywhere. LVH is considered on of the top hospitals in the state. However, I am not an LVH loyalist, just stating the facts. If your hubby is flying out of LVIA, you could move into Bucks county and drive to Philly and work CHOP, St. Chris's or Temple peds. If he's in Evoca, Geisinger is excellent. Good rep, good benes. I fly for Penn, so I get to go to a lot of places. Feel free to e-mail me. [email protected]

Thanks everyone. My husband decided he doesn't want to move, but that's ok because I just got a fantastic job where we are :)
