Philadelphia Area "New" RN: 30 applications rejected : When will my dream come true?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi everyone :redbeathe

30 applications now, and each one denied.

2 of them, were actually for an entry level.. so once they were declined, i actually shed tears.

::sigh:: well im just here to vent. I am so exhausted with applications, i'm starting to feel I might as well give up for a few months.

how are things for you new jersey grads? My paper work for obtaining my licenser in NJ is nearly complete. however, i wonder if its worth the $200.00 and other fees? :redbeathe:crying2::nurse::uhoh3::redbeathe

I've read through this entire thread and agree that most of the jobs are not posted. Employers spend $500-$1000 per posting, only to get dismal results. Temp/Perm agencies are no better, b/c they just want seat warmers, not necessarily what is really needed for the job. If any nurse here is interested in an office (non-physician) environment and desires a later career in pharmaceuticals, biotech, etc - please contact me. I know several direct employers that are looking currently in and around the King of Prussia, PA area. Even if you temp for 6 months, or are placed on a "backup" list - once the work comes in, you may enjoy it enough to make a career of it. Email me: [email protected]

hi, IM BACK! well, its almost been a year since i posted this.. still nothing.

from 30, to 300 applications from PA to florida, and each state in-between.

i am now saving for licensure money for the states of MD, VA and DE for now.

I am at a loss, as we all are. just here to vent again.

OH, i have had 3 interviews, however all realized AT THE INTERVIEW that i graduated in 2010 and did not have exp. My resume and cover letter both read that way - so i was some what insulted.

going forward i am being sure to verify they understand NEW RN, upfront before i waste gas money! :sigh:

ohhh life.

Aww, you poor thing. :( Do you have PM privileges yet? I can give you the contact information for a couple of DONs at subacute and/or LTC facilities around here in Southern NJ that I know have hired new grads lately. (Hope you are licensed in NJ!) I can't post them here, but you can PM me. Don't give up!

Hi:

I am a new grad as well, graduated August 2010 and still do not have a job. Thinking it would help, I received ACLS, PALS, NRP. Unfortunately, still no job. I am tired of filling out applications, sending emails, making phone calls only to receive no response. :uhoh3:

try prisons

try prisons
While it certainly can't hurt to try and put in an application, very few prisons appear to be hiring new grads. Here's an excerpt from a recent posting that's all too typical these days:

in my experience prisons hiring nurses as long as they have pulse but it is very hard to get a hospital job with only prison experience.

I registered with the state public health job system and none of the job notices I get are from prisons.

But I do get per diem job notices for health clinics so that might be something to look in to. Go to the PA department of health website and sign up there. Our RN license counts as the civil service exam.

Hey hiddencatRN, can you post some advice on how to get registered? I went to the PA DoH website and found the employment section but it looks like the only way to sign up is to register for the civil service exam.
