LaSalle Achieve Fall 2013

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

For years, I was reluctant to apply to LaSalle while finishing my pre-reqs at CCP. I guess I was intimidated, countless people told me to apply...but I put it off, fearing rejection. May 2012, I finally applied...studied for the NLN on-and-off the entire summer...received a high overall score on the entrance exam over 100... Sci. GPA of 3.25, Overall: 3.13. Received my "Congratulations/favorable consideration letter" from LaSalle in Sept (2012) and have been living vicariously through current students in the program now.

I have signed up for the last of my required pre-reqs at LaSalle so I can get a "feel" of their grading style and going to a large university. I know the official nursing acceptance letters won't go out until May 2013, and I shouldn't get my hopes up ...but I've worked so hard (and will continue to!) and hope that things will continue to work out favorably.

Has anyone else received their "Congratulations/favorable consideration letter"? Does that letter mean, if we continue on doing well and meet the required deadlines...that it "should" work out in our favor? Oh the anxiety...well I'll be practicing my conversions and studying.

Take away message: Don't get in your own way...and everything and anything is possible if you give it your all!

I suggest in getting a NLN exam book. I got one used on Amazon. I was VERY prepared for the exam. Scored over 90 percentile.

Sending Positive Vibes on your nursing success from an LaSalle Achieve Alumni!:up::up:

I too agree with LadyFree28...get the review book and study. I took that book everywhere. I practiced off and on the entire summer and it paid off. I did the practice test and used the cd that came with the book...It really prepared me for the exam.

Thanks ladies, I purchased the "Review Guide for RN Pre-Entrance Exam by NLN 3rd edition, from Amazon that came with a CD. I'm preparing to begin studying 3 hours or more a day. Did either one of you use this particular book? Did you use any supplemental material?

LadyFree28, how did you find the program to be? Any tips, pointers or words of wisdom that you could share?

I only used this book to study from. I studied about 3-4 hours/day as well. I think this book prepares one to do well on the exam.

I believed that the program was a good fit for me. I think the program was intense, it covered theory and practicum very well. I enjoyed in depth clinical experiences; I felt my cohorts at the Main Campus got along very well, and I enjoyed my theory and clinical instructors; we were treated like professionals, IMO.

The pointers that I can give in succeeding this program is:

Get to know your instructors, like another poster stated. They want you to do well.

Rent, get your books used and buy the "Recommended Readings"...they were very useful in studying and application of nursing theory, practicum, and nursing process. (You can get these pre owned as well  ) Also, get books that have NCLEX review material of the subjects that you will cover. I used the Success Series.

They are very flexible about clinical sites; get to know your clinical instructors and make yourself available for opportunities in your clinicals. Your clinical group cohorts will become your lifeline in surviving nursing school.

Follow, follow FOLLOW the "rubrics".

And above ALL...remember that nursing school is what YOU make it. Your journey will help build the foundation of what nurse YOU want to be.
