La Salle ACHIEVE questions

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi guys, currently I'm deciding between accepting offers from La Salle's nursing ACHIEVE program (night classes) and 's ACE program. Both have their pros and cons for me, so I just thought I'd ask more about the Achieve program since there are tons of threads about ACE, not so many for Achieve. :)

Questions:

1. La Salle classes are held twice a week in the evenings, right? I notice it says that Saturdays are clinical days. Is it EVERY Saturday or only some Saturdays?

2. What is the average age of a student in this program? I'm 23, so I'm probably going to be on the young side if I do attend. :) I'm just curious.

3. Are you able to make connections through your clinical experiences to get jobs after you graduate? I've heard the market's tough in this area!

4. What is the yearly cost of the program? I think La Salle's site said something about $27k, but I wasn't sure if that was per year or the entire program.

Much thanks in advance. :heartbeat

No La Salle students here at all? :

There are plenty of posts on here about the Achieve Program at La Salle, there's not much on the regular BSN at La Salle but the Achieve definitely. Type in La Salle on the search and you will se some of the answers to your questions on the threads.

Yeah I was just hoping for some more up-to-date information from people currently in the program. :) The more info the better.

hi guys, currently i'm deciding between accepting offers from la salle's nursing achieve program (night classes) and drexel's ace program. both have their pros and cons for me, so i just thought i'd ask more about the achieve program since there are tons of threads about ace, not so many for achieve. :)

questions:

1. la salle classes are held twice a week in the evenings, right? i notice it says that saturdays are clinical days. is it every saturday or only some saturdays? yes, classes are two nights a week, either tuesday and thursday or monday and wednesday, from about 6-9pm (till 930p in the summer). clinicals are not just on saturdays though. and it varies from semester to semester. one semester you might have clinical every saturday and sunday but every other weekend; others you might have clinical every saturday (or sunday) every week.

2. what is the average age of a student in this program? i'm 23, so i'm probably going to be on the young side if i do attend. :) i'm just curious. i think you'll be okay, lol. there are more second-degree students and career changers, and less right-out-of-high school students.

3. are you able to make connections through your clinical experiences to get jobs after you graduate? i've heard the market's tough in this area! you can certainly network at clinical experiences, especially if your placement is in an area you're interested in. it is a tough market in this area, basically because they're are so many nursing schools but not enough positions to keep up with the pace.

4. what is the yearly cost of the program? i think la salle's site said something about $27k, but i wasn't sure if that was per year or the entire program. that sounds about right. we take between 8-10 credits per semester, and right now tuition is $500/credit.

much thanks in advance. :heartbeat

hope that helps!

Thanks again for the answers, Oneday!

I really hope the market changes by the time I get my nursing degree. I know the Philly area is a bit oversaturated.

@itsaroad

congratulation on your acceptance to La Salle. I also applied to the Achieve program this Fall. I tried to pm you but not allowed yet due to not enough posts. Could you please tell me what kind of questions did they ask you during interview? I got accepted to intending nursing and after the interview and NLN exam, I will find out for sure if I get a spot or not. Thanks in advance and my e-mail is [email protected].

Hey whiteorchid, I didn't go in for my inteview yet. Mine is the second week of March. Did you go yet? I'm pretty nervous about it as I have no idea what to expect. I also have not taken the NLN yet, but will soon!

Had my interview and I am scheduled to take the NLN in April. Now all I have to do is finish microbiology!

Hey everyone, I am waiting to hear about my acceptance in the the Achieve program for Fall 2011 at La Salle. I am taking classes there now and when I went to the interview she said I had everything done that I needed to start in the Fall. I am finishing up my pre-reqs over the summer. I was just curious how long it takes to find out if you were accepted. I went to the interview on 02/17 and she said I should hear by March. Still haven't heard anything but I was curious if you were given a time-frame for a response? Thanks!

cbreslin did you take the nln yet? i haven't, but it seems that as soon as she has the scores for the nln (she can find out what your scores are the next day) a decision would be made. i'm taking the nln in april and i have to take microbiology in the summer too. are you taking micro at la salle or somewhere else? maybe i'll see you there! :)

Hey, I did take the NLN. I scored a 126. I am done all my science courses. I am finishing up the religion, philosophy and literature courses this semester. Over the summer I am planning on Statistics, my second fine arts class and one elective. I am really hoping that I get accepted because I don't have another year to sit around and wait. She told me I would be in one of the first admission decision meetings that they had, but I am still waiting. It is getting extremely nerve wracking.
