Is it possible to get a job at CHOP?

  1. 0 I really want to work at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. I work nearby and I love the area. I'm not a nurse but I'm studying to be a nurse and I want to start at CHOP to get my foot in the door. Every nurse that I know that works at CHOP appears to be happy. It seems so hard to GET IN. Is it possible to work at CHOP?

Several girls I will be graduating with received job offers from CHOP. So, yes, it is possible to work your way in as a new grad! Best of luck.

OK next Q-- what steps should be taken to get a job at CHOP? Obviously apply and follow up with phone calls... then what?

I think that pretty much sums it up...apply, then call about your resume...it will get forwarded to the appropriate recruiter who will in turn contact you and the process will begin from there...the only thing that I was advised from HR is that unlike experienced nurses who can submit applications to multiple departments, they ask that new grads choose and pursue only 1 department.

They are a very new grad friendly facility.

    Good luck!

    Ling07,
I worked at CHOP through school as, what is now called a 'patient service rep' and a 'Senior Nursing Assistant' and then just had to do a department transfer when I graduated. Working in various departments in the hospital gave me a great opportunity to check things out to see where I would (and would not) like to work as an RN. When I graduated, I worked on the oncology unit. It was a great experience and the hospital has a great orientation program for new grads.
Hope this helps. Oopps. I see the orginal post was May '08. Hopefully, you're already working here!
If not, check out the positions on their website www.chop.edu
    Good Luck!

Yeh, it seems that to get into CHOP, you need some sort of connection. Although many hospitals are like that. No one told me that going to school in Baltimore but not planning on working in Baltimore would make my life a little more difficult. sigh.

Same here! Apparently I shouldn't have gone to school in CT unless I was planning on staying here to work. :\

I submitted my online resume/application to CHOP 2 weeks ago and was contacted by a nurse recruiter within days....after a lot of phone tag we finally got each other on the phone and I had a mini-interview just yesterday. She is forwarding my resume to 2 units of my choice and told me I should her back within a week......keep your fingers crossed for me!!

but long story short, it seems like it is possible!
