hospital infections targeted in pennsylvania
a new patient-safety initiative being launched today by philadelphia-area hospitals aims to bring the industrial emphasis on minimizing mistakes and improving quality from the factory floor into the surgical suite. the effort by the delaware valley healthcare council, which represents 68 hospitals in southeastern pennsylvania, seeks to improve safety and patient care in specific treatment areas.
...the effort will initially focus on reducing hospital-acquired infections in four of the highest-risk areas: urinary catheters, ventilators, surgical-wound sites, and central lines.
