Holy Family University in PA

  1. hello--

I am anxiously waiting for an acceptance letter from Holy Family in PA. Can anyone tell me about the quality of the BSN nursing program? I am on pins and needles, any tips on how to stay calm while I wait?

    Thanks.

I'm there now and its not the best program that it can be, kind of unorganized. But then again its what you put into. If a particular opportunity arises, I'm thinking about transferring. The best possible quality education is important to me.

I just received my acceptance letter on Saturday and I was thrilled. However, I will heed your message. The main reason I wanted to attend Holy Family was the cost and most importantly they have a night and weekend program. I really need to work during the day. I plan to give these classes my all and when I graduate I do feel I will be a quality nurse.

It's what you put into it that counts. However, if I could afford not to work my first choices were the following: Drexel Ace, Thomas Jefferson University Fact and Villanova's BSN Express. I would love to go to any of the above shcools. However, because of my work situation I am looking forward to going to Holy Family. However, should my situation change I would transfer as well.

    Good luck.

If I could do it over, I'd choose a different program. Sure, every place has it's pros & cons - but this was bad. Advice.... be prepared to learn the majority on your own, question the material your presented and get EVERYTHING in writing (and be prepared for it not be honored).

I feel bad for being discouraging about HFU - because nursing is excellent! If you're going in September - just keep your eyes & hears open. And keep on top of everything that goes on. Good Luck.... it's really worth it!

Thanks for the warnings about Holy Family University. After careful consideration I have decided not to attend their nursing program. I don't have money to waste and after being accepted I continued to hear bad things about the program.

I have recently applied to La Salle, Drexel and Villanova. I am on pins and needles waiting for a letter. Personally, I feel by attending any of those institutions I will be a recipient of a quality education.

I just got my deposit back from Holy Family and am now looking forward to vacation. I hope a decision is made soon.

    Thanks again for the advice.

I graduated from Holy Family in 1996. It was a good program BUT they didn't add statistics to the coarse guidelines until a few years ago. Now that I am ready to go for my master's, i have to take a stats course before I even get in.

It is a good program. If the hours/schedule is better for you, do it!

Of course the other schools you listed are more recognizable/prestigious so if you get in, it will work for you and you can afford it, you should go to one of them.

What about Gwynedd Mercy? I know they have a program where if you already have a BS/BA they offer a two year weekend program that meets Sat and Sun, plus summers off! Granted, you only come out w/an ASN but if you want to continue to work gwynedd's w/e program might work out well. I checked into their program but ended up going to CCP because of how much cheaper it is and it's a lot closer to my house. Good luck!

I really want to get my BSN and go for my MSN my goal is nursing research! An ASN is not enough for me at this point in my life. Although I wish my financial situation was better years ago because I would have pursued nursing much sooner.
