So I am trying to study for the med terminology test, and this little booklet has 45 pages.....I am trying to figure out what I should be studying, there is no way I can memorize 45 pages in 30 days.

i emailed Professor Glatts and she said the books are now in and to call for a pick up time. She did not specify who to contact.

i graduated from harcum's evening program in december, 2009. i will try to answer most of the questions that i saw in this thread. the program is not as large as most of the areas bsn programs but they provide you with the information that you need to pass your boards. to be honest, i think that they need more staff in the nursing office. you'll find that by the end of your fall semester that they know every student in the program (pro). clinicals were held at bryn mawr, chester crozer, psych at einstein, taylor, jefferson for critical care and a few other places, none in an area that really worked for me other than einstein but i managed. clinical sign-ups were handled poorly, sheets were placed on a desk and it was first come first serve (con). most people worked together if there were students who just got not get to a particular hospital. someone was always will to swap (pro). at the start of each new semester there was a med-calc exam, so practice if you want to pass on the first attempt.

i had a few issues with financial aid but if you go into their office and ask for more money they will help you. you can get harcum loans to cover any balance that you have after financial aid, if financial aid does not cover your entire bill.

the nursing program itself has it challenges but all-in-all the instructors know their stuff. glatts teaches a lot of the program and she is really great. if she is one of the clinical instructors for your ob rotation, get into her clinical group. that's her specialty and you will not be disappointed.

if they have your schedule laid out like our class, you'll take pharmacology over a long summer session but it was a great course that i believe we all passed.

preparation for nclex was done in our final semester, now that i am thinking back it was really good but should have been a little longer maybe. not sure if harcum will use the ati testing again but that system was pretty useless in prepping for nclex, you will have an ati exam after each semester. after the program is over they made us take an ati exit, which was supposed to determine if we would do well on nclex. i did lousy but passed the boards.

with harcum's program you have to try to remain positive and stay focused on the goal of passing the boards.

let me know if you have any other questions.

Kathy 101 - Do not stress over the medical terminology exam. From what I can remember it was not very difficult. It is sort of hard to provide you direction for studying because you haven't started clinicals yet. Here are just a few of the abbreviations that you should easily recognize for the exam and when in the clinical setting: HS, AC, PRN, PO, BID, QID, IM, SQ, OD, OS, OU, PC, VS - good luck, let me know how you made out on the test.

Jolbabe - congratulations on your acceptance.
