Drexel University-ACE Program Fall '09

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi,

I will be attending University's ACE program in the Fall of 2009. I just wanted to see if anyone else on here is in that class...and the kind of information they have on financial aid for this program and how they are preparing for the fall.

Thanks!

Hi!

Here's a different perspective.

I agree that the info is not rocket science but realize that, at least for me, I never felt that I had enough time to solidify the material. Finals are scheduled with no reading days so often you have two days to review material. It seems that for 80% of the exams, I wound up studying the night before, literally, because there was no time to study.

My GPA is good but low for me. Exhaustion for me runs high. My experience often depended upon scheduling that I have no control over (for example, two 8 hour days of lecture then 3 clinicals in a row). I think, too, is if you have a lot of experience with studying for multiple choice tests, you will be fine. Now that I'm in my last quarter, I have the hang of the testing here.

Good luck!

Wow! I'm very glad I found this thread ... and very excited to hear back from for 2010! I'm from Florida but looking at schools in the Northeast ... can anyone tell me what a studio/ 1br apt runs for near campus? I've looked on Craigslist, but being that I'm not too familiar with the area I found it a little confusing. Thanks :)

Hi all,

I'm about to graduate ACE (finals and exit exam left, wish me luck!) and I am trying to help someone out. I have two unisex scrub tops in medium that I'd like to give away, save you $36. Also a heads up, you don't need the labcoat! Save yourself the money, you'll need it for books. Let me know if you are interested. I'd be happy to find my stuff a new home.

Hi vundernurse,

I am curious as to how much you ended up spending on books for your 11 month time in ACE. I got the book list for this Fall and it is nearly 1000 dollars for only first quarter books (assuming I will buy all of them). What should nurse ACERs expect on books for the entire program? Thanks for your clarification!

Faye

Don't buy them from the bookstore- someone gave me the site bigwords.com, and it searches online bookstores to find the cheapest prices for your books. They are WAY overpriced at the campus store.

Also, the APA style guidelines are available online for free, so there's absolutely no reason to buy the APA Manual of Style.

EDITED to add link: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

Purdue's OWL website is also where I go for MLA format too. It is a fantastic resource.

Thanks Hidden Cat, did you end up paying less than $2000 for all your books? (I did not even spend this much for books in my undergraduate degree two years ago)

I spent probably $2500 for textbooks, review books, etc. But, those can be sold back or to the next cohort, just expect to put a lot out of pocket! Don't but certain books, you can borrow every textbook on reserve in the library, and you can generally figure out which books are necessary within the first few weeks of class. Doesn't anyone want my scrub tops? Please, medium, unisex, and free! I don't need these horrible yellow things around my house, haunting me for the rest of my life!

I haven't bought them yet, because I want to wait until we get the list at orientation *just in case.* But the estimates I've gotten from bigwords so far are around $400-$500 (omitting a few books like Calculating with Confidence since I already have it, APA and I'm going to hold on the medical terminology book because I have one, just another publisher but I'm hoping it will do).

I'm starting in the fall too, so I don't know what the end cost will be, but I definitely will avoid the college bookstore and its insane markup.

Hey vundernurse,

I was reading about your free tops for the program. If you still have them I'd love to take them off your hands.. I was just accepted into the 2010 spring program and am SO excited!

Look forward to hearing from you!

Hi, all! I'm excited to start ACE this fall. The booklist is now up on the Barnes & Noble site, just in case you were wondering about it like I was a few minutes ago...

The Fall 09 booklist isn't going to be out until orientation. People do have the booklist for Spring 2009, and if you go to the bookstore website and put your classes in, you can see what books are there.
