Drexel University?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

I just received my first acceptance letter. It is from University in PA for the Accelerated Career Entry BSN (second degree). I only have 40 days until I have to pay the admission fee and I can't figure out if this is a good school or not because there are no rankings. I did not have to send any recommendations or essays with my application and that makes me nervous. Does anyone have any insight? (I am not from PA so I don't really know the schools very well)

Thanks

I believe that Univeristy has a pretty good reputation here in Philly, I am not sure about the nursing school though. I know the ACE program has only been up and running since like 2000. The old nursing school was at Hahneman Hospital I think.

I am awaiting my acceptance letter for the Fall 2008 ACE program. Is yours for Spring or Fall 2008?

Since this is a second degree program they probably don't feel like you need all the letters of recommendation and what not.

thanks for your response! I was accepted for the fall 2008 semester. Also just got accepted to BSN Express at Villanova. Do you happen to know anything about that school's reputation?

Drexel uses GPA as their cutoff. You either have it or not. There pass rates are pretty good. Hope this helps.

bast11, I just got accepted to both those programs too!!! I'm so excited! I have never heard anything bad about Villanova, but I have heard that is very difficult, disorganized, and have a high drop out rate...but I'm still torn!

keep me updated on what yu find out and are leaning toward. It would be great to know someone at orientation! Well, Congrats!

The ACE program is probably the most difficult program in the area, I said this because I finished it. As far as disorganized, I agree, however; I also have friends who goes to the Villanova and UPenn program, they also complained about their programs in terms of organization, knowledge of the instructors, etc. My point is, you will not find a perfect program. High drop out rate, yes, very high drop out rate, like I said before, it's a very difficult program. BUT, let me say this, the reason the drop out rate is so high, it's because they really prepare you. You can't expect to go through the ACE program with 86 credits in 11 months, and have over 99% nclex passing rate to be easy, right?

One more thing, sometimes I get asked what program did I go to, I told them the ACE program, and they said, the ACE program from ? and I said yes, they usually replied "wow, I don't know how you do it".

hello! to everyone who got into villanova, what were your stats...gpa, college degree, etc. i'm not trying to be nosy, but i was thinking of going back to school for nursing(still need to take the prerequisties) and was looking into villanova. there aren't a lot of posts about people getting in the bsn express program, so i was just curious as to what the playing field is.

thanks

Hey hushpupgrl, my stats aren't anything spectacular my gpa overall is a 2.97...my gpa for the prerequisites is significantly better. I will have my degree May 10th of this year and the program starts May 19th! I feel really really fortunate to have been accepted because I thought I wouldn't even compare to the competition. So just work hard on your prerequisites and be positive and passionate about nursing and you will make it!!!

Drexel is a good school. I think it's best known for its Engineering program, which is highly ranked nationally.

I just finished my first quarter in 's ACE program and so far so good. It is a bit disorganized but I think the hard work will be worth it. The timespan of the program was most important to me, and 11 months is nothing when you think about it. I've been told that ACE graduates are known for being good at multi-tasking (because of the fast pace) and technology literate (PDAs are built in to the program). I would recommend it, but I do have 3 more quarters to go! Good luck with your decision!

I have a question,

I applied to and meet the requirement of a bachelors degree. Would they look at my credits and see that I will be graduating in May or should I tell them? (2.75 for someone who has their bachelors)

I did not receive any letter from them and I see every1 else has.. I am keeping my fingers crosses.!!

I don't think it would hurt to call and verify that they know you'll be graduating in May. People in my class graduated with their bachelor's in August and started ACE in Sept. so I don't think that would hinder you.

It might be best to call just for the peace of mind. The people I talked to in admissions were always very nice. I think it took over 3 months for me to receive a decision and felt like forever! Good luck and hope you hear good news soon!
