guys, i just graduated from the spring class this year. it is true that the program is hard. tho, it is expected, it's the same as any other accelerated nursing program. i'm not sure that if they told you in orientation that you will no life for a year. they r not kidding, if you want to survive this program u have to study 24/7, sleep w/ ur books if that helps. along the way we lost alot classmates

i can tell u that at the end it's all worth it. after i passed my HESI in april, and i took a month off. i just took my board on thursday, and passed w/o study much for it.

u all can do it, u just have to work for it

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to live? I live w/my parents to save money in North Wales, PA, a suburb of philly. I'd have to take the train everyday. Just wondering if it's better to find a place nearby or commute everyday? What are others doing?

Thanks for all of your comments. I know this program is going to be very hard. A few of my friends have graduated from the program. They say it was tough, but well worth it. I'm still nervous!!

]Hey everyone!

]I will be attending the ACE program in September and I'm very excited and anxious to start! I just finished my bachelors at Penn State and decided too late in my time there that nursing was what i wanted- but i'm glad there are programs like ACE!

]

]I applied for the student housing which is across the vine street expwy from the hospital in center city. housing said i would hear sometime in June if i was given a spot, there are 1,2,3 bedroom apartments available. I think it comes out to about 1000 a month including utilities. If i dont get this housing I will fine something close using craigs list or the list on the housing website- anyone else have similar plans?

]

]Let me know if anyone wants to chat about starting in september!

I graduated in September 2005 and I have to say that I certainly worked hard but my life wasn't entirely devoid of enjoyment. I just worked really hard. I think that help is definitely there if you need it. I was doing fairly well and I used the tutoring center every now and then when I was totally confused. Besides that, my classmates and I would always try to help each other out. I think my class may have actually had fun. I have to say one of the things I didn't like about the program is that when assigning clinicals, they paid no attention where you actually live. I could have had a clinical literally 1/2 mile away from my house but I had take the el, then a 40 min train ride, then get picked up by a classmate for one clinical. I'm not sure if this is how things are still done...I imagine it is. It can really create some problems if you don't have a car, but they did allow us to "switch" with other people before the semester began, and many of us carpooled so it all worked out. Not all clinicals are in Philly. Some were in South Jersey (and I mean waaaaay into South Jersey), a few were in NE Philly which is a hike, and I know there were some other assorted hospitals far from the city. For the most part I really got lucky with the locations of my clinicals and the fact that I found someone to "switch" with me one semester. Also, living in the dorm is ok, but for $1000 per month (or a lot less) you can find some spectacular apartments in Philly. If you're going to do it, you can't be afraid to work hard and perservere. So in summary, chill out about it, don't try to hold down a job while doing the program, don't slack off, and have some fun every once in a while. If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me too!

Hi everyone, I just registered here. I am planning to graduate from Penn State with a degree in Health Administration next May. I am an intern at Southern Ocean County Hospital for the summer....and this experience has lead me to look into nursing. So far my hopefuls are Drexels ACE program, but since I never had to take science classes (go figure) I need to make up all the prereqs. My senior year is going to be very difficult now and the program is extremely expensive on top of it- my Stafford loans are alread mostly maxed out so I have no clue how I am going to pay for it. Is there anyone who can give me advice, whether you have taken the program or know anything about how the aid is for these accelerated programs etc?

I'm a penn stater as well, me and my friend got accepted to the ace program. We also rec'd the finanical package and only got about $10,500 in stafford loan, since you mentioned your staffford loans pretty much maxed out, I think you would just have to go for private loan. The total for the ace program this year = $32,000 (approixmately). So I would have to go for private loan for the remainder.

I would suggest you to take the pre-reqs in community college instead of penn state, to save you some money. Hope that helps.

hey all, I am also starting the program this fall and am glad to see there are others I get to talk to ahead of time. The only thing that's freaking me out a bit is the money. Also, anyone from Jersey? Hopefully we'll be in touch.

Thanks for the post, one quick question- do you mean that you recieved that financial aid package on basis of family income, were you independent or whats the deal becuase I tried contacting PHEAA and I can only take out 5500 for the year, even though I still have more than that left in loans available to me....I supposedly still have 8500 left in loans but since there is a annual cap I cant access it all - any thoughts? Thanks so much!

PS. What makes you eligible for this financial aid package?

Neaner22, sorry if I confused you, but the financial package from was sent to us after we applied to the FAFSA. Since we're both independent and both have degrees, that's why federal only gave us $10,500. I'm not sure if that answered your question, feel free to let me know.

Hi everyone!

I'm starting the ACE program this Fall, and i'm wondering if anyone knew when the orientation is? Any past Acer's remember when they had theirs? I'm trying to plan a trip before school starts and I dont want to schedule it during Orientation, so if anyone knows ANYTHING i'd appreciate it. All i'm really wondering is if its the week following Labor Day (i doubt it is) but who knows!

Thanks for any responses!

Kathleen
