Drexel Nursing ACE Program Fall 2013

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

HI guys, so I am very new to this but I am EXTREMELY anxious about getting accepted into this program for the Fall. I have a Public Health Degree and have quite some experience in the Health field (ie. hospitals, senior living home, companion care, education).

Reading other forums I really don't know what my chances are of getting in. I have seen someone with a cum. gpa of 2.6 get in, while someone with a 3.0 get denied. Anyone who has applied, have you heard back from yet? Do you know anyone who was accepted into the spring 2013 semester.

I'm praying EXTRA hard. I never wanted anything so much in my life. All my Application materials have been in since August 6.

I believe the second Hep B shot is to be administered 6 months after the first but I'm not sure if that's the second or third vaccine, so don't quote me on that. Did you get your compliance package soon after you paid the deposit?[/quote']

I paid my deposit on the 8th. I got a package, but there was nothing useful in it. I'm not sure if it was my compliance package, but it wasn't very helpful. What was supposed to be in it? I'm more worried about getting the vaccine in time for school. Also, I've never had a background check, so I don't know how to go about doing that.

I haven't found a place to live, but I'm going to live with my friend who is entering his first semester of law school at Drexel.

Does anyone know what day the semester starts? I haven't been able to find an exact date online.

The compliance package will have information on CPR certifications, physicals, background checks, etc. Stuff that's important and what the school needs in order for us to start clinical rotations. If I were you, I'd get started on the Hep B vaccinations now. The second dose is given 1 month after the first, then the final dose is administered 6 months after that.

I'm not too sure on how long the background checks will take.

Idk when our first day of classes will be. Maybe the second week in September?

Hey!! Congrats to all you have been accepted, and best of luck to those of you who are still waiting. I am in the program now, 10 more weeks and its all over! I skimmed through a couple questions and I think I can be of some help. My fingerprints took the longest to come back out of everything in the compliance package, so don't wait until the last minute. The background check and the PA child abuse clearance came back pretty fast. If you haven't started your hepB series yet, I would do so soon, I think it takes 6-8 months to complete the whole series. As for living arrangements, a couple students life in Stiles, but I would say most commute in on the trains from other parts of the city or South Jersey. I took the Patco to class most of the time coming in from Jersey, its like a 10 minute walk off the train, but you can't beat the price and you don't have to fight traffic. Clinical sites are ALL OVER. You can be at the big ones in the city like HUH, HUP, CHOP, Penn, CHOP, but you can also be placed at several in South Jersey, Delaware, and other parts of PA. The furthest I ever had to drive was like 45 minutes, but I have heard of people driving further. As for the program itself, it's hard, but 100% doable. Don't let everyone's horror stories scare you. You're going to start Sept. 23rd, but you will have orientation a couple days before that. You're first quarter will consist of classes 4 days a week and clinical one day. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I already went through the majority of it.

How would we go about getting our fingerprints done ahead of time? I had gotten them done a couple months ago for another program...I got them done in NJ. Would this suffice, or do we have to go through ?

I'm not sure if they have changed what they are doing, but I had to do everything through CertifiedProfile.com. Either with my compliance package, right after I got it, I got all the information to sign up there. You are most likely going to have to get them done again. I live in Jersey but I had to go into PA to be printed. If you have a Facebook, I would really suggest joining the ACE group on there, its all current and past students so they are pretty helpful with any questions.

Hi All,

I originally was accepted to the Spring 2013 cohort but decided to defer for several different reasons.

As such, I have A LOT of inside information about this program. I went to their open house and learned about all kinds of things, took a tour, and received the Spring 2013 check off sheet that will not be sent out for Fall 2013 cohort until March/April.

I still have 4 pre-reqs to fulfill. Not sure if anyone knows of this, but there is an option called "CLEP"ing. This is where you actually take a test and can test out of taking a college course. Many of the pre-reqs, such as Intro to pysch, intro to sociology, and Human Growth and Development can be taken through CLEP. All you have to do is buy the $25 CLEP book, study what they suggest, take a $80 test at a certified institute, and pass with a 70 or above and you're done!!

Also- I know about the requirements and grade averages each semester to continue in the program. If anyone wants to know about this, I will certainly put another post up about it.

The actual nursing school is awesome! They have all these dummies (a pregnant woman, baby, and adult) for us to practice on and even a doctors office for us to practive visiting patients. What happens is we enter a room, interview with a LIVE person, and are critiqued on how we handled the situation. The interview is even recorded for us to look at ourselves!

Okay, that's all i will say for now. Let me know if anyone wants more information. I got the inside scoop!

I also got accepted to Fall 2013 program in November but I am still trying to decide if I want to pursue the career.

shawna23: Could you post the grade averages of the program? I am interested in 's BSN to M.S.N. Early Assurance Program and get accepted into the CRNA program but I am not sure how difficult it would be to maintain the required GPA to get accepted. Does anyone know of any students or how many students are able to get accepted into this program?

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

Is having a car an absolute must for getting to and from clinicals? Does anyone knows if they school gives preference to those who do not have car to pick clinical sites that's easily accessible by public transportation? I am from the NYC metro area and do not have a car...was thinking about how I would get around w/o a car.

A couple people did not have cars, they just used public transportation or car pooled with someone in their clinical group. But no, the school does not give any preference as to where your sites are going to be.

Thanks AngelaChristiana!

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to let you all know that a Facebook group has been created for the Fall 2013 cohort. If you type in " ACE Fall 2013" in the search box, you should be able to see the group and request to join. :)

I tried searching for it just now and it hasn't come up :(
