Drexel 4 year BSN CO-OP Fall 2010

Hello All,

I've lurked here for many months and LOVE :redbeathe all of the quality advice that is given to every single post...

I am hoping there are some fellow students out there that can tell me about the BSN 4yr Co-op program... If you start in the Fall, when will you likely have co-op? As a transfer student with pre-reqs completed, what is the course load going to be like? I've searched the forums and there doesn't seem to be much info on this program. There is, however, a wealth of info on the ACE program at Drexel...

Altogether, including the co-op..they say 3 years, but really its 2 1/2 from the start of the nursing classes. I'm only doing one co-op because I'm a four year student. I may take a minor because I have a lot of free electives to take in order to stay full-time.

I checked DrexelOne and it looks like I need to complete 2 chem classes before I can start Nursing 200. In total I have 4 non-nursing classes (including the chem classes)... I figure I will take them all in the first 2 quarters, so I may not start Nursing 200 until Jan 2011....I am a four yr student as well and I will also have one co-op according to the website...So I am guessing I will be there 3 yrs.. I will do anything to make that shorter though due to how expensive this school is.... Your schedule looks good. It doesn't seem to be too traumatizing .... Are all of your classes in Center City?

I forgot to ask where your clinical site is....

Well that was my schedule for the first quarter. I'm coming to the end of my second quarter right now. So far the only classes that I've had to take at main campus were nutrition II and co-op, but its just a shuttle ride away from center city. I would try to take the two chem classes over summer at a community college, i took chem II right before I entered . At $40,000/year you'll want to get started as soon as possible.

My first clinical was at Nazereth Hospital in northeast philly. My clinical this quarter is at Kennedy in Stratford, NJ.

I was just accepted into yesterday and was invited to participate in the Two-Year

Nursing Co-op Transfer Fast Track program this fall. I cant seem to find any information regarding this program. Is anyone else in this program or have taken this program?

No problem! I know there isn't much information available out there, and I know I wish there was someone out there who could have filled me in when I was starting out.

I didn't have to take any placement tests at all. The classes are pretty interesting for the most part, but BEWARE of nursing informatics. It was the most boring class I think i've ever had to take. It used to be taught by the nursing department but it switched over to the college of information science and technology. My class was the "guinea pig" of this change and we all agreed it was a horrible class. I don't know what they'll be doing with it in the future but it definitely wasn't my favorite. But other than that the classes are not bad at all from what I've had to take so far. I'm currently finishing up Adult 1 and Pharmacology I and I think this was a harder term. The best advice I can give anyone is to study your powerpoints right after lecture and (I know its boring) but try to read as much of the textbook as you can. The professors do hold you accountable for any information that's in the book, and it does really help me understand the content better.

The lectures are sometimes boring, and sometimes they're very interesting. The nursing process is a huge snorefest, but its extremely important that you know the material. Fluid and electrolytes are the most intense part of principles, and they also will be following you around for your entire nursing career. I really recommend buying Fluid and Electrolytes made incredibly easy..i just bought this book off of amazon and its amazing!

There's really a ton of stuff I could say about the program already, but honestly I don't mind the questions at all. If there's anything else your curious about don't hesitate to ask.

I honestly have never heard of a two-year fast track program. I'm assuming it's a brand new thing because I know myself and a dozen other transfer students would have jumped on that opportunity in a heart beat if it was offered to us! I'll ask around for you though.

Thanxx again lulu, wow...i jus have one more question, since the class has 80 students im guessing that means they seperate the students when it comes to the regular classes right? How many students is in one class, like a lab class or your nursing informatics class was it alot of students or was it like 20 per class? :idea:

Do they seperate the students by alphabetical order? I seen that you did some of your clinicals already in NJ, did you like it? What was your experience like? What did you have to do? Is it like working as a CNA or did u have more responsibilities? Girl you know i have tons of questions, lol

i found out that i got accepted to a couple weeks ago! i was accepted to a couple other nursing schools, but drexel and jefferson are at the top of my list. i was accepted to the 5 year co-op, but would i be able to switch to the 4 year program? i like the three co-op opportunities in the 5 year, but i don't know if i really want to wait a whole another year to become a nurse. i think one co-op would be enough for me. does anyone know how i could switch to the 4 year program if i enroll?

by the way, is anyone going to the accepted students day on march 6th or april 11th?

If you are a new freshman you should be able to switch by talking to your adviser. If you are a transfer student, you will not be able to switch.
