Anyoner hear from ccac for fall 12

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

... Know anything about the process?

Wow it really sticks to have to wait that long but at least I know now. Thanks

One of the nursing teachers At Allegheny campus told me the letters might come at the end of this month. Typical CCAC though you get 50 million stories from every person you ask... she told me that they had over 900 applications and 350 spots. I would not discount the hospital programs expecially with the tuition forgiveness programs that they have

Thanks for the update. If I don't get in then I will just keep applying until I do! I think I will try more than just one school next time, that is if I don't get in. They have more spots than I thought they would have though!

Specializes in transplant/case management.

You may want to try mercy, Ohio valley and west penn. it doesn't hurt to apply. I'm not sure of when everything is due for each school. Good luck!!

The hospital-based programs (at least Shadyside; i'm sure the other UPMC programs will follow) don't have 100% tuition forgiveness. I'm maxed out on undergrad loans so I basically HAVE to go to a community college program I can pay cash for or apply to a Graduate-entry program.

I think shadyside told me it would be 5500 a year after tuition forgiveness, and I qualify for the full pell grant so it would have been free, so still pretty reasonable but ccac is cheaper if your paying cash

I can't get a Pell Grant because I already have a Bachelors (and Masters). I don't know anyone who went to Shadyside who didn't have to take out some loans, though (I went there for a semester and withdrew. . .um. . .I wouldn't trust anything the financial aid office there tells you. They actually OVERMAXED me out on my undergrad loans. It was a huge mess that I had to clean up).

I saw that St. Margaret's makes you pay for your first year, then they pay your second with the tuition forgiveness. Either way, neither situation works for me.

West Penn appears to be ungodly expensive. . .I haven't heard anything about a tuition forgiveness program through them but I suppose it could exist?

I made it! Got my admission packet today! Totally stoked! But lots to do now!

CONGRATS!!!!

My wife got her acceptance packet on Sat, but it was all wrong. It didn't have all the paperwork and it wasn't for either her 1st or 2nd choice of campus. She wanted either Allegheny or North campus and she was assigned to Boyce. I suppose a 4.0 isn't good enough?

I don't want to re-post what i've written elsewhere, but it is a giant cluster-F right now. The packets should not have gone out, but they did. Nobody in "admissions" at any campus knows what happened or why.

My post is #19.

If anyone else out there has had the same or similar problems, please let me know. My wife and I are both irritated and pretty stressed out about the whole thing. If it can't be solved, she can't go to nursing school this semester and CCAC loses a 4.0 candidate because they have their heads somewhere the sun doesn't shine.

I know this is frustrating for you, but I don't think anyone was saying your wife wasn't "good enough" for anything. . .she was still accepted to the nursing program, and plenty of people won't be! She's still not finished with her corequisites, either. So she could finish up A&P 2 in the fall and reapply for her campus of choice in spring, make arrangements to get to Boyce in Fall and apply for her campus of choice for Spring (there is only 7am class 1 day per week), or take her chances elsewhere.

She has options.

Thank you for the reply! The "good enough" comment was more about there not being anything else she can do to get into the campus of choice, rather than a skill assessment. Disappointing to get a 4.0 and not get either 1st or 2nd choice for campuses. We have no idea now what it would take to get onto 1st or 2nd choice for campuses.

We're considering those options you mentioned and it really boils down to 2 (unattractive) choices.

1) Take the Boyce assignment and bite the bullet to take the 80 min round trip commute each day (Allegheny campus is 15 min round trip for her!). Also, pray that none of the clinicals and classes are on Saturdays, because she won't be able to reliably make appointments during Sq Hill Tunnel constructions on weekends/nights.

2) Finish A&P2 at Allegheny and roll the dice yet again and hope for Allgheny campus. This is less attractive because it delays her again a couple months, which is important for us. Plus there is no guarantee that she will make it to alleg or north campus next time since there is no explanation of placement criteria.

The frustration really comes from there being no explanation as to their selection criteria and no assistance from Amber Reed (responsible for campus assignments for CCAC nursing). She is not answering her phone or emails today. She also doesn't have an out of office notification active.
