Nursing internship/Externships in Pediatrics/Nursery in Pittsburgh/UPMC

Hi!

I'm a second degree student working towards a BSN. Currently I am a PCT at UPMC. I will be starting clinicals in the fall, and will be graduating by Summer 2010. I have a very high interest in Pediatrics and Infants, and I really want to find a PCT position at Children's, but its really hard to get into because so many people want to do the same. Another option would be doing an internship/externship with any of the local Pittsburgh hospitals like Magee, Childrens, AGH, or West Penn.

Has anyone gone through any of these hospital internship/externship programs? What are they like (how many hours per week, flexibility with courses, pay, job duties, etc)? Do you choose which unit you want to intern in, or do they just give you one that is available.

Are there any other programs or jobs at other local facilities here in Pittsburgh that give direct patient contact with children and/or infants that I should look into?
