LPN's PLEASE READ

Hi, I"m sorry to say that I've never heard a good thing about Prism; your experience may be different. There are only a few LPN programs left in the area - Eastern Tech is one, and I've workd with some of their graduate who are terrific nurses. (www.eastech.org).

LPNs in a nursing home start around $20/hr; depends on the facility. Only you can decide if it is worth it to you; personally, I find it very satisfying to be a nurse, but I wasn't a CNA prior to that.

You can get a license in other states; depends on the state!

You must be lisenced for any state you wish to work in. (ie if you want to work in NJ while living in PA, that's fine, but you must be lisenced in NJ).

also PIT Pennsylvania Institute of technology has a LPN program as well. I got a better reception from them than from Prism, but Eastern Tech is the cheapest I've come across so far

Wow, LPN's start out at $20/hr? At my hospital RN's start out at $19.57!

In FL CNA $10-$12 Hourly PN $16-$20 Nursing Home RN $25 Hospital

When my sister-in-law became an LPN in Miami, she worked at a nursing home and got paid $18/hr and within two years she was making $20/hr. She then became an RN and started making $23/hr working at a community health clinic....three years later she now makes $25/hr working at the same community health clinic.

I would say the difference in the money is not much from a CNA to an LPN, but by being an LPN you are on your way to a better educational opportunity to becoming an RN. You really need to see if it is worth it for you...

I'm attending Eastern right now. It's going good so far. I heard that Prism is not accredited so be careful if that's where you are considering.

Are you attending the full-time or part-time program? Is it fast-paced?

This original posting answers one of my questions. I used to be a CNA in Dover,DE back in 2006/2007 and I only was paid 9.00 per hour while I worked 7P-7A on the ICU. I loved the work and I dearly miss it, I live in Philadelphia now and have thought about taking the course at the Red Cross here in Philadelphia but never knew how much local hospitals pay. She said she is making 15.96/hr, that is great! I am currently a flight attendant and can't wait to quit!!!!!!
