Synagis season.. Ugh!

The dreaded Synagis (RSV) season will be here before we know it. Why is it so dreaded..??? Well not only because it is terrible to see such sick kids, but the never ending battle of wills with INS companies will begin. We recently received a notice explaining who qualifies for only a 3 dose series vs a 5 dose series. Luckily in the office I work at the rep for Synagis is actually very helpful, and I think he goes above and beyond when we run into problems with ins companies. Anyone else find it ridiculous how "at risk" these kids have to be to get this med? I know it is very expensive, but come on so many children who really need it are rejected. We had parents last year who were going to sell their wedding rings to pay for their child's Synagis. I can only imagine how much harder it is going to be this year.

I thank God every day of RSV season that I live in Canada. Kids who need Synagis get it. End of story. There is of course documentation required so we can follow up, but that's really just an inconvenience. We keep a database of at-risk kids and the public health clinics make sure the kids are injected on schedule. If one of their kids ends up in hospital they contact us to let us know the kid needs their next shot. Works well.

I understand your concerns. I was the synagis coordinator last year for my clinic and as much as I loved those kids, I am SO HAPPY someone else is doing it this year. Our Synagis rep. is awesome as well.

Maybe if we get some sort of healthcare reform kids who need it will be able to get it here as well. It is nice that there is the continuity of care with regards to this. There isnt anything like that here.

My synagis rep shows up once a season only when her manager is with her. Then has the nerve to act like were friends. Get outta her lady and let me get my piles of paperwork submitted before the season starts.....lol ;-)
