    I worked nights so I had some time to browse the intranet, well I looked around HR and there they were: 3 brand new 36-hour peds positions!

    I have been at my current job for a year now, it's an adult surgical floor and while I don't mind the floor, it's not peds. As you can see from my screen name, I am not where I know i belong. These newly posted positions are for the pediatric float pool and I technically qualify! They travel between med-surg, BMT, and the PICU.

    Ah, I am so tempted to apply. I assume my NM would be supportive since a coworker (with similar experience) is transferring to psych next month but I still wouldn't know how to break it to her. She gave me my first hospital job (I worked in private duty peds prior) so I feel like I owe her, even know I KNOW I don't. I also really like my coworkers and I would be nervous going into a float position with no real "home."

    No real advice needed, I just needed to swoon over these positions for a minute. I have been checking periodically and there's been nothing so to see these, I am just overwhelmed!

    A year is enough time on the floor. I don't think she'll be offended if you go to where your heart is! Do it!

    I really want to but there is just something holding me back. I don't know if it is my coworkers or the thought of going through orientation again. I am just hesitant. It's easy to leave a floor you hate but what if you don't mind it?

    If I did decide to apply, should I tell my NM before submitting my application? I would hate to have "the talk" and not even get an interview but I feel like she would want a heads up.

    For internal transfers, you might have to. Check with HR. I say go for it.

    I am going to check in with HR after Christmas to see if I would actually be in the running. I am really considering it, every person I've talked to has told me to go for it!

    I would go for it. When I started nursing there was a L&D position I got offered an interview for and I turned down because I had just accepted my first med surg job. Now I kick myself everyday because I am haunted by the WHAT IF. Don't be like me and regret it later. Even if you don't get it, you can at least say that you tried.

    I say go for it! You have the nursing skills and you have the heart for peds. My employer (a peds hospital) provides a program to train both new and experienced nurses into the role of a peds nurse through some classes and orientation before they make it to the floor. It's a big help.
