PNP or Acute Care ???

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum. In the fall I will be entering my senior year of undergraduate education as a chemistry major. I have recently decided that I want to change my career goals to nursing. I've done a LOT of research and have fallen in love with Peds Nursing. I have worked at a daycare for 2 summers in a row, am currently volunteering at a Children's Hospital and i absolutely LOVEEE kids!! I would ultimately like to go earn a degree as an Acute Care Peds Nurse Practitioner or Peds Oncology NP or something like that. Since I will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, I have been looking into BSN/MSN and Early Entry MSN programs. I have noticed however, that there aren't many programs with specialities in Acute Care Peds. My question therefore, is should I look into obtaining just a Peds Nurse Practitioner? As a PNP can you simply just go into an acute care or PICU setting or is it necessary to have that specific degree? Can you begin as a PNP and then just get training on the job? Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated!! Thankssss
