Pediatric play therapy project for peds class PLEASE HELP

Recently I received an assignment in my peds class. I was assigned to develop a play therapy project for a preschool age child with a fractured tibia using only household or hospital items (no toys, game boys etc). Oh and it has to be therapeutic. I've been thinking about this project for weeks and I cannot think of anything for this child to play with to distract him from the pain of the fx and the hospitalization. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

you could maybe get him to make a book using, drawing or sticking pictures of things that make him happy from home, from school, from outside, games he likes to play, etccc also get him to tell you things that remind him of being in hospital and use them all on different pages( get syringes, gloves, things from around the unit) make the book super different and tie it to his bed. it could also include things that make him happy, and things that he doesnt like to use to tell you how he is feeling that day, put anything in it.. smiley faces, happy pictures, drawings rom his friends and family.
or he could make a mobile to hang over his bed from lots of different things on the unit.it could have a cloth around it that he can put over himself when he wants to hide from everyone.
these ideas may seem a little mad...but they make sense to me!! lol.
hope you think of something. x
