oh, i have done worse mistakes in my 2 years.

in my experience what i can tell you, is to take it like a champ and stick your head up high, you double check yourself always, don't ever be too over confident-- question yourself and you will be ok.

I'm still at the same peds/surgical floor; and after all that ive been through, i am more wary of things I say about myself and others. now i try not to get too personal with my co-workers, because they smile at your face, and when you turn around they stab you in the back. i double check everything, and every order i see. if things are not labeled, i label them; whatever i can do without help, i will do it myself-- like changing linens, and getting a new admission.

The fact that you are nervous makes you a good nurse. Never stop double checking and asking for help if you need it. I have been a nurse for over 13 years. Anytime I give a med (especially one that I'm not familiar with) I always look it up. I have found the nurses that don't express such concerns and appear to be over-confident tend to give less of themselves as a nurse and are at risk for making some big mistakes. People make mistakes. That's part of life in any career that you do. The difference is that you learn from your mistakes. Don't be terrified every time you pass meds, but keep a little bit of that fear to help you remember to double check. I hope this helps some. Nursing can be scary, but you'll get better. My favorite quote is "You have to want it more than you are afraid of it". You can do it!!

I have been a nurse for 8 years Pedi for 6 years. I double check myself everytime I calcuate out medications, give vaccines, etc. When there are so many distractions you have to step back and go over it all again in you head. Everyone makes mistakes the main thing is that you realize your mistake and speak up immediately!! It is scarey at times especially when you first start out. I was the same way but the fear settles when you become more confident in your skills. New situations will come up daily and make sure you ask questions or look things up.
I can tell your a good nurse because I don't think a bad nurse would be worrying or stressing out!
