cleft palate post op care

  1. 0 I am trying to recall post op interventions for post op after a cleft palate sx. I took pedi nursing 3 years ago, so I do remember no straws, cleans suture line after feedings, keep head 30~45 degrees after feeding but as far as drinking do they drink from a cup or spoon?

Cleft PALATE - they can drink however they want after clearance from the surgeon. Cleft LIP - usually a cup. Again, the surgeon should have a protocol.

Since you said it had been a while, just remember that cleft lip and cleft palate can occur in combination AND in isolation.
