- Nov 28, '12 by KelRN215Quote from wish_me_luckWhy is it disheartening? These people work there, they know what it's like. I think if a current employee discourages someone from seeking employment at their institution, the prospective employee should listen and thank them. I discouraged people from seeking employment at my old (nationally ranked) hospital.Big cities, but even just finding a level 1 hospital is fine. When I read this, I found it slightly disheartening that nurses and doctors are encouraging you to look elsewhere from your current facility, especially if it is a teaching hospital.
- Nov 28, '12 by hiddencatRNIt speaks poorly to their job satisfaction. Kinda sucks that a facility with a goal of teaching new healthcare providers would have an environment that's apparently not a good learning environment.
- Nov 28, '12 by KelRN215Ok, that's true but it seems to make sense to me that people who are dissatisfied with their employer would discourage others from applying/ taking a job at the same place.
- Nov 28, '12 by hiddencatRNAnd that's fantastic and wonderfully exciting, or sad and disheartening that the staff en mass is unsatisfied with their employer?
- Nov 29, '12 by KelRN215I don't really think it's either. It's honest. Some places are not good places to work and if employees from multiple disciplines tell a student "you don't want to work here", it's probably the truth.
- Nov 30, '12 by ShantheRNYou're in Ohio and you don't know a good teaching hospital in peds? Check the southern border
- Dec 5, '12 by smurfynurseyLook in to Shriner's hospitals - there are 22 around the US
If you want to be nice and warm
, All Childrens in St Pete, St Joes Children's hospital and Tampa General peds unit in Tampa are all excellent. Also Florida hospital for children in Orlando, and Wolfston Children's in Jacksonville, and Joe DiMaggio in Hollywood, FL are all excellent hospitals. I used to work at facilities that got many referals from TGH, St Joes and ACH. If you want to go to DC (I hated it there but to each their own) Look at CNMC and HSC, and in Baltimore UMMC, Hopkins, KKI, and Mt Washington Ped hospital
Good luck to you! - Dec 16, '12 by miatachic02I work at Children's Hsp. in Philadelphia, started 23 years ago. I highly recommend it! It is a little difficult to get into, but well worth the wait.
